For some reason I thought that was the guy whose name we see at the start of "I dream of genie, Lost in space", etc... it sounded familiar

The US Government drove him to suicide.

The only thing that comes to mind is that MIT and the Government have some close ties the guy probably seen  or found something 
on those servers what wasn't supposed to be seen at all. I mean why else would the Feds drive Aaron to suicide well because he found
something he wasn't supposed too and ill leave it at that.

They offered him a plea bargain of 6 months instead of 35 years.  I fail to see the persecution here.
