Pakistan: a bill to ban child marriage shot down at 1st hurdle for being 'un-Islamic'
The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony rejected the Child Marriage Restraint (Amendment) Bill 2014 after the CII dubbed it ‘anti-Islamic’ and ‘blasphemous’.

The committee meeting, which was presided over by its Chairman Hafiz Abdul Karim, unanimously rejected the bill on ‘purely religious grounds’.

In May 2014, amid severe criticism from various quarters, the council had endorsed its earlier ruling that girls as young as nine years old were eligible to be married “if the signs of puberty are visible”.

“Parliament cannot create legislation that is against the teachings of the Holy Quran or Sunnah,” he had said while backing his arguments with relevant laws and a few references from the Holy Quran and Hadith.

According to Islamic laws, marriage can be solemnised when a girl attains puberty, Sheerani claimed. Under the Constitution, the CII chairman is the final authority in the council with the choice to overrule the voice of all members. While the CII’s decisions are not binding on parliament, they are treated as the guiding principles to frame laws.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Primitive fucks.

But then, this IS Pakistan where people trying to eliminate polio are regularly murdered.

Holy fucking shit.

This is the clear danger when the whims of an imaginary being are considered more important than the wellbeing of actual real people.

How about these people let Allah speak for himself? Why does he constantly need busybodies doing his work for him? I guess they think if they don't do it, he might wake up and start sending fireballs down everywhere.

It's what happens when you set your morals in stone and do it at a time when morality is dubious and male dominated.

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

I agree. Banning child fucking is unislamic.
On an unrelated note; turns out Jimmy Savvile is a holy prophet.

Here are some other shameful facts: 21% of girls in Pakistan marry before age 18. Globally, 700 million women alive today married before they were 18, and almost half of all child brides live in South Asia.

Child marriage in Pakistan and elsewhere has devastating consequences. Married girls typically stop going to school. They give birth early and frequently, and both they and their babies often suffer serious health consequences, including fistula, uterine prolapse, and low birth weight. Married girls are more likely to become victims of domestic violence than women who marry later. Child marriage helps to hold families in poverty.

I guess Muslims are in a difficult position, because if they come here and criticise this, they're criticising their fake Jesus guy. Or else they have to concede that morality isn't objective after all.

It's one of the problems you have when you worship the same book as these savages.
