This mass is in Portuguese.
I don't know if it's Brazil or Portugal, but at least in Brazil (and Latin America in general), the culture there is a lot more playful, informal, and "touchy feely" than here. May look weird to an American, but to me it looks like very typical behavior of my native culture.
So yeah, sorry guys. As much as some of you wish he were beating kids or molesting or whatever, he isn't.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

No, this is not any sort of traditional ritual or anything like that. Sometimes in mass, especially in South America, at the end of the mass they do something fun to get the kids more involved so it's not so boring for them. I'd say that's what this is.

Uh-oh. I think I see the new line of defense in the pervert priest scandal.

It is in Brazil CL, the accent is from there. Besides, Portuguese churches and chapels are usually older looking.

No wonder so many people think of atheists as whiners. You're completely misconstruing -- or mis representing -- what is happening in those videos.
With enough real bullshit pulled by religionistas, this is your choice to highlight?

I assumed it was. I'm still not sure what Portugal Portuguese sounds like though, so didn't want to jump to conclusions.

My thoughts exactly, Thump.
People who do this are just making atheists look bad. Just as Christians who do similar things make Christians look bad.

Oh, would have been fun to see one of the kids smack him. All in the spirit of not being boring and all.

So if some stranger took your head like that and shake it with slap on the back and pulling your hair you'd be OK with it?! And if he did it to your kid to the point that it looks like it will get a concussion, you'd also be OK? Probably not but if priest does it then it's ok? What's next, video of priest touching kids genitalia and people saying "Ah, they're just playing mom and dad."
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
