Why More Americans Want to Own Guns
RE: Why More Americans Want to Own Guns
Crackheads shooting people in the face are not a statistically meaningful portion of our gun deaths...nor are hitmen, nor are they drunken people shooting their friends (and is that even supposed to be crazy...honestly?...that's drunk).  Our gun deaths are 4 parts angry people doing angry things/protecting their livelihoods...and 6 parts depressesed people shooting themselves.  What would you accept as an authority?  CDC, ATF, FBI, Morbidity and Mortality (don't even ask, I'm hooked, lol)....the ratio of murder charges in which a plea of insanity is accepted.....what? I just don't want to have to bicker after I present you with stats.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Yeah, it is kind of an "all of the above" type of thing.

It's really not, not even taken altogether, but that's the perception..not without reason, granted....I guess? Crackheads can't afford guns, hitmen are a hefty dollop of fiction, and drunks...when they shoot people, generally shoot themselves (not a problem in my book...a solution).

Your thread, for example, is a testament to stray bullets and bad decisions...and as full as it is, as much as you know I enjoy it.... it's not actually representative of our gun problem in the slightest. Drug war and suicides, there it is.

Don't forget the cops.  They spray lots of bullets around, too.

Hey, remember last year, when we were treated to the stat that cops had killed more people than all mass shootings combined in 2014...and then, not to be outdone, they beat their own record in 2015?

Bravo fellas, never be satisfied. You could always plug -at least- one more black male in your pursuit of "justice". Keep reaching.

CDC would work fine, so long as they track the mental health of the assailants, which is after all the crux of the point.

Quote:Yet surprisingly little population-level evidence supports the notion that individuals diagnosed with mental illness are more likely than anyone else to commit gun crimes. According to Appelbaum,25 less than 3% to 5% of US crimes involve people with mental illness, and the percentages of crimes that involve guns are lower than the national average for persons not diagnosed with mental illness. Databases that track gun homicides, such as the National Center for Health Statistics, similarly show that fewer than 5% of the 120 000 gun-related killings in the United States between 2001 and 2010 were perpetrated by people diagnosed with mental illness.
