Treaty of Tripoli?
March 5, 2016 at 3:19 pm
Here's a question for Donald Trump or Ted Cruz -- "What do you think of the Treaty of Tripoli?"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Tripoli
What do conservative Christians say to this? Here's Article 11 for those of you who do not want to click on the link:
Quote:Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen (Muslims); and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan (Mohammedan) nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

That statement is a bit out of date now. We're enough of a Christian nation that someone can run on theocracy and not get immediately kicked out, and we're led to believe that sharia is the worst thing in the world, despite sharing many similar ideas with christianity.

Human immolation, vivisection, amputation, decapitation . . .
The christers hostility stems from jealousy methinks.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

They yearn for the good old days when they were allowed to do that. W've still got people who want to round up all the gays and kill them, but they're considered the crazies now. Not the reasonable authority figures.

If you're referring to the "the USA was founded as a Christian nation", every time the treaty of Tripoli is brought up, they just hand wave it away.
So, business as usual.

In fact, it is pretty much mandatory.
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.

God has no place within these walls, just as facts have no place within organized religion.

Science is like a blabbermouth who ruins a movie by telling you how it ends. There are some things we don't want to know. Important things.

Once something's been approved by the government, it's no longer immoral.

In Texas they tried to write Thomas Jefferson out of the history books.

I heard about that. It would be bad enough without the fact that Texas decides what goes into the textbooks of other states.

Well, good news then. With "print on demand" the influence of Texas has dropped severely. School districts can pick and choose which chapters go into a text book, or even which sections of chapters get included. (This was obliquely referenced in the movie "Interstellar".
