Is Christianity responsible for anti gay bigotry?
Given that same sex relationships were for the most part uncontroversial in pre christian ancient societies, and didn't really become taboo until the Christianization of Rome and Christian European imperialism. One has to ask did gay peoples troubles begin with the rise of Christianity?

Most likely.

The Greeks had no problem with man on boy.

Hadrian and Antinous ruled the Roman Empire.  I would have paid to watch . . . .

I am honestly not knowledgeable in other religions to answer a definite yes or no. What's it say in the Quran? How do Buddhist feel about it? What about other religions such as Hindu? It would seem, for the most part, however, that christians are a huge group against it. So, from a layman's POV, I would say that christians continue to be a catalyst in the war against gay marriage, or gays in general.

RE: Is Christianity responsible for anti gay bigotry?
According to some books I've read about Roman culture, there was anti-gay sentiment in pre-Christian Roman society, which was heavily Patriarchal in its family-structures among the upper classes.

The influx of Greek ideas moderated that, somewhat, and set up the clash-between-ideologies that I think allowed Christianity to take root in the Roman civilization, since there existed a number of "traditionalist" people who disdained the Greek openness (just as in modern America, where we have liberals and conservatives who hate one another's ideas, and the latter group tends to cling to severe religious beliefs as a way to combat the laissez-faire attitudes of the former).

What began as a cult of anti-sex radicals eventually morphed into the machine we see, today, but it kept its loathing of the (Greek) attitudes toward sexuality, from Paul's railing against temple prostitution to the OT ideas about homosexuality.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

Honestly, I disagree on both accounts. But I never was into any kind of hardcore porn. Not even as a teen.

stick anything that moves.

Jews also had a death sentence tied to homosexuality.

Christianity simply identifies it as a sin, just like any other and requires repentance from it.
In essence Christianity has the least serious response to Homosexuality out of those who see it as a sin.

This is simply wrong.

Quote:Currently, the issue of homosexuality in Hinduism is controversial, especially amongst Hindus in countries where homosexuality is generally accepted. Hindu views of homosexuality are varying and diverse, in part because the accepted Hindu religious texts do not explicitly mention homosexuality.

Homosexuality is also a complex matter in Hinduism because of the many types of religious life. In general, "twice-born" Hindus are prohibited from homosexual acts (maithunam pumsi), such as in Manusmrti 11:174, which mentions both men and women.

On the other hand, the famous Kama Sutra states that homosexual sex "is to be engaged in and enjoyed for its own sake as one of the arts." In general, then, the Hindu evaluation of homosexuality depends heavily on the context.
