Blind Watchmaker - Preface

Blind Watchmaker - Preface
Preface

In the preface Dawkins insists with great enthusiasm that we, as animals, are of such complex design that it begs explanation. And he is going to do that explaining. The problem of our complex design has been solved by Darwin and Wallace. A great mystery that he can scarce believe most people was not aware of a need of there being a solution!

I find it interesting that most Evolutionists and Atheists scoff at the idea that we think that we are designed and therefore special. They also tend to find fault with our existence as a mystery, and would be so foolish to think that we could gain some insight on that mystery by reading Jehovah God’s word, the Bible and yet at the same time be more or less of the same ilk.

Dawkins later says that this wonderful mystery of our existence not only could be solved by Darwinism but “A good case can be made that Darwinism is true, not just on this planet but all over the universe wherever life may be found.” Science.

I found it interesting that Dawkins comes out and says that Darwinism needs to be advocated more than “similarly established truths in other branches of science,” though he does admit that he doesn’t understand why.

I also found it interesting that Dawkins asks why such a simple theory would have escaped the notice of such scientists of the past such as Newton, Galileo, Descartes, Leibnitz, Hume and Aristotle.

Although I disagree with this post I must say that it is a refreshing departure from the authors norm and I, for one, would like to encourage such posts in the future.

I'll let someone else tackle this as my head is about to explode with the green stuff.. Yuk!

Right now I am not at all pleased with most of the regular posters here, so at least for now I am trying to hold my tongue.

I'm sorry to hear about your cold, and I hope you get well soon; I just got over a cold before my surgery, though it was a mild one. Perhaps when you feel better and when I have cooled down we can discuss why you disagree with my post.

I find it interesting that you decide to criticize a book about a subject that you clearly do not understand (and indeed scoff at), and have so far refused to even consider trying to learn more about it.

You came here and taught us a load about the Bible that we had never heard before, and we all listened and learned. We ask you do to some learning of your own and you simply refuse to do so. Such hypocritical nature isn't that uncommon for a religious man I suppose.

It is not my intention to criticize the book, but rather to learn about evolution. You are correct in that I do not understand it fully and that I do indeed scoff at it, but I have always at least made some attempt to learn more about it. I have done that here as well. I continue to do that.

I came here and tried to teach you a tiny portion of what I thought any skeptic of the Bible should be educated on. The spirit, the soul and hell. I also responded to a post that was made before I got here on the flood. When it became obvious to me that no one here was interested in being educated by me on the Bible I politely decided to move on. Later lukec posted the Daystar thread and I decided that I would try to get you collectively to help me understand where you, the atheist and Bible skeptic were coming from. I began my observations on atheism posts.

I began to notice that in genral you all became more and more hostile towards me. You were loosing your patience. You only wanted to convert me or make a fool out of me. I didn't mind that, in fact I understood it. But it is getting to the point where you not only don't listen to me, don't want to even try to understand or debate me you only want to silence me. That is how I feel about it right now.

I am actually surprised at this because I thought you were more open minded than that. Actually you just want me to think like you. Even when I made a much greater attempt to understand you and your teachings than you ever have mine that isn't enough.

Even in a thread on a book that was reccomended to me here, which I agree to consider and discuss with you you still dismiss my willingness to learn. Your members are starting to murmer against me. They are saying I should be banned. For disagreeing with them?

I think that it is hypocritical of you to do all of this. This is why I say that you are no different than the religious which I hate. And that makes me sad because I actually thought that you were better than that. Perhaps I was wrong.

I should have known when you objected so fiercly to my even questioning your teachings. That is religious.

If it were not your intention to criticize the book you wouldn't read a chapter and then post a critique of that chapter on the forums. You would read the entire thing and then post your thoughts in an entire post. It seems to me that you simply want to systematically take the book apart chapter by chapter. By "reviewing" the book chapter by chapter you bring up questions which are probably answered later on in the book, yet you have no desire to read to that point before mocking them openly.

Playing the wounded martyr now, Daystar? That's new. Now, I can't speak for anyone else but I think the only time I actually get frustrated with you is when you demand proofs of everything, and accept simple evidence for anything. This stems, I think, from the fact that you really don't seem to understand the basics of evidence-based research, and that you call the bible evidence. Maybe it is sufficient evidence for you, but for myself and most atheists here more is required. Nonetheless, you keep plugging your evidence based on the bible, etc. However, when you assert things from the bible that are completely against the grain with what science has found, you expect us to prove why it couldn't be so, rather than prove why it could be. For example, your ideas on the water layer envelopping the earth. You put forth a valid hypothesis, but did not provide any supporting evidence other than the heat of the layer. Then, when I say something that disagrees or does not affirm your hypothesis you got really angry right away. And then you say that we are unwilling to debate? You could at least be civil towards those who are civil to you.

Yes. He questioned others but wouldn't let others question him. If I questioned his belief on God, he wouldn't give evidence. And then when he claimed God and the supernatural again - once again - he didn't like me questioning! If he didn't want me to ask for evidence of the supernatural he shouldn't have kept claiming the supernatural!
Yes, If he makes claims but won't give evidence then its HIM thats unwilling to debate.

Daystar,

I do not believe you are here to learn, everyone has weaknesses, everyone makes mistakes and most of us will learn (sometimes grudgingly) from these but you are so convinced of your correctness on the bible, on evolution and on atheism that you refuse to listen to anything others say on the subject.

I do not accept you are non religious, I think you are fundamentally Christian even if you've twisted those beliefs away from standard Christian mythology, given the fact that you use standard creationist/theist arguments (amongst others) I think you are just a creationist variation on a theme, you are a hypocrite IMO and your recent activity shows you are nothing but what I call a Berserker!

Please do not insult Berserkers, I've played one on various occasions and I have great respect for them.
