RE: Controversial views
I agree with that, in theory.

If it's suspected someone is not in their right mind, and it is likely they will return to a better state of mind, then I think a case can be made for protecting them from themselves. Similarly for the young. I'm not saying the case is automatically watertight, just that I can see valid arguments.

Other than that, I think it should be everyone's right, indeed. I think forcing someone to live who doesn't want to is a cruel practice.

(damn, I've dated AND outed myself big time now)

I hate Elvis.

I actually dislike a lot of music.  Unless it hits me on an emotional level, it's just sound to me.  So the bulk of stuff a lot of people like I don't.  What's frustrating about that is that a lot of people think it's because I haven't heard their favorite band or song and that my opinions are based on a lack of exposure, which is simply not true.  I've listened to a ton of music in my lifetime.  I likely have heard whatever the other person finds to be the pinnacle of music.  I just simply find most of it annoying-to-terrible.

I'm that guy who dislikes entire genres of music.  I loathe country.   Old country is filled with cheesy, schlocky crap.  New country is essentially watered-down pop rock.   Full of whiny/nasally voices and terribly twangy guitars.  Yuck.  I'm not into hip-hop or rap.  I don't actively hate it like country, but aside from a few exceptions, it's annoying at best.  Too much repetition, no real melody... nope.

I've learned the hard way to just let it go, because music is an intensely personal thing to a lot of people, and despite how it may seem at times on here, I really don't try to be an asshole all the time.  So, I don't usually say something.  But, I might find a convenient reason to leave the room for 3-6 minutes....

I'm right there with you, dislike Elvis, and ditto on The Beatles too. I can kinda see why they appealed to people at the time they were relevent, since the music they were presenting was (relatively) more exciting than what people were used to then. I don't understand people who still go out of their way to listen to them today though. There's been so much better and, frankly more exciting, music since then and they're so dated now.

With that being said I can't stand people who take music so personally. I have my favourites but I'm not going to really cuss someone out just for not liking them. Some of these crazy internet stans go way too fucking hard for their queens, looking at The Beyhive (LOL at that name tho, genius), The Rihanna Navy, Gaga's Monsters etc. You'd think these celebrities were paying these teens to come to their defense, the way they wild out for them. It's stupid. I actually had an internet friend who cut me off once, because I got annoyed with him for arguing aggressively with people who dislike Britney, and he knows I love Britney myself. Let people have their opinions, it's not that serious, especially over celebrities who don't know any of us even exist as individuals.

I'm strongly in favor of municipal consolidation too.

Large contiguous metro areas don't need hundreds of separate mayors, city administrations and utilities. Pass the savings on to the taxpayers,

Same with school districts. One county, one school district. Fuck redundancy.

Germany needs to stop being so ashamed of its history. The majority of those who perpetuated the killings are dead.

There also needs to be more memorials to German soldiers, and yes that includes units of the SS.

John Waters 'twist' on capital punishment is appealing;

Society needs to present it as equivalent to the Oscar or Academy Award for crime. Make a big deal of it, play it up, get commercial sponsors, treat their families like celebrities, announce the verdicts and sentences in the form of black tie media events, etc.

I agree with the first part, 100 percent I couldn't even agree more with that.  Not to sure about the SS soldier memorials though, weren't they responsible for a lot of direct and obvious war crimes?  I'm not too keen on war memorials anyway.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Yes, the SS did do most of the war crimes. But they should still be remembered. Well in my opinion anyway, but I am willing to just settle for Wehrmacht memorials.

Speaking of memorials, we should be keeping the UVF and UDA memorials and murals from the Troubles. A couple of them have been removed.
