Positive reasons don't count against the rule. This thread is allowed for the same reason the "Happy Birthday!" threads are allowed, unless Lostykins actually took offence at the thread, in which case I'll eat my shell.

Yeah, I get what you mean, but is there anything here that you couldn't do via PM? Why make it public?

A happy birthday thread at least helps people remind others b-day. What exactly is the purpose of this one?

There is a difference between spamming and posting threads you happen not to care about. Was this thread necessary? No. But it's in off topic and it's not like he makes 10 a day it's just one thread.
