Nobody should have to care, but unfortunately worldwide in our species history, change is hard for most, humans don't like their social norms upset. Conservatism isn't an American thing, it is a male species thing. It is very easy to sell utopias and promises of success, be it money, religion or the feeling of selflessness of being part of something, and the powerful find that useful to get people to follow. It always takes a skeptic to to make progress. 
And nobody does care, far as I can tell. It's only white noise over a private business doing what it considers best for business.

And churches don't hire atheist employees. Which bias is more harmful, and why aren't these folks pissed about that?
