He was a truly amazing boxer.

True enough. I've always beaten the snot out of people for free.

He also softened on most of his goofy religious views that he had when he was younger while he aged.

I disagree on that point.

Muhammad Ali was always a Muslim after he converted. Naturally enough, he continued making references to God, Islam, his beliefs, etc. in public even as he aged.

Examples:

- In 1981, when he was asked in an interview whether or not he has any bodyguards, he said that he has only one bodyguard - and that is God.

- Muhammad Ali's Hollywood star is the only one that is on the wall and not on the floor. He said, "I bear the name of our beloved Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and it is impossible that I allow people to trample over his name."

- He strongly criticized Donald Trump's ban on Muslims. He also said, "I am a Muslim and there is nothing Islamic about killing innocent people in Paris, San Bernardino, or anywhere else in the world. True Muslims know that the ruthless violence of so called Islamic Jihadists goes against the very tenets of our religion."

- Regarding his illness, he said: "God gave me this illness to remind me that I'm not number One, He is."

I'm sure there are plenty more.

I think what he meant was that Ali became less radicalised

He joined the Nation of Islam in his youth, which has some pretty radical ideas about race and other beliefs. Later on though he left and just started following Sunni Islam, I think.

"Ironically like the nativist far-Right, which despises multiculturalism, but benefits from its ideas of difference to scapegoat the other and to promote its own white identity politics; these postmodernists, leftists, feminists and liberals also use multiculturalism, to side with the oppressor, by demanding respect and tolerance for oppression characterised as 'difference', no matter how intolerable."

In his late 20s he had similar ideas towards white people as Donald Trump does now towards Muslims.  His philosophy was that he wouldn't trust a lot of white people because only a few of them could be trust worthy, therefore it was safer to "Close the door on them" and stay safe.

“There are many white people who mean right and in their hearts wanna do right,” he said.  “If 10,000 snakes were coming down that aisle now, and I had a door that I could shut, and in that 10,000, 1,000 meant right, 1,000 rattlesnakes didn’t want to bite me, I knew they were good… Should I let all these rattlesnakes come down, hoping that that thousand get together and form a shield? Or should I just close the door and stay safe?”

He also said that he agreed with the KKK about seperatism and even did a speech at a KKK meeting.

I've heard that there are some indications he was brainwashed and even intimidated by the nation of Islam and that some of his family members and girlfriends really hated the nation of Islam because of that.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I never liked boxing, but I did like his empathy. Unfortunately though as with every religion the reason he stated for all his rightful empathy was that he wanted to make sure he got into heaven. So even with all that brawn and talent even he was living out of fear. He was a great human being, but still sad to see nice people like that fall for superstition.

He was really brave about not going to war, willing to go to prison instead. I agree with him on that war. He was right it was getting our poor to kill their poor. Unlike Trump who simply lied about it. That is why I don't like drafts. If someone mentally cant handle it, why the fuck would you want to force them to do it and have them get out on the battlefield and have others get killed? Even the soldiers who do go can come home with PTSD.

Ali was a great Boxer and a great humanitarian. But it still does not make any god real.
