I don't care to get into a stupid semantics argument with you, but whether I'm losing money or losing value, the effect is the same. I get paid in GBP, and I live in America, so I have to convert it to USD every month.

I wonder.... how do you convert it?

A friend of mine showed me the revolut card and I think it works quite well... (https://revolut.com/)
Just wire cash to the card's account in GBP (or EUR or USD) and then convert when you want at the stop exchange rate... no extra fees, no nothing.
At least, I had no problems with it during my one week stay at the US!

I've been using Transferwise, which has a low fee and transfers money and mid-market rates. Apparently Revolute has a slightly lower exchange rate, but no fee might balance that out, especially if I can get my money in a few hours (with Transferwise it takes a few days). I'll check it out.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the TTIP here, which is probably what pushed me over the edge, so to speak.

Another example of the totally undemocratic nature of the EU, one of the biggest trade deals the world has seen being negotiated behind closed doors, in secretive locations with next to nothing being reported in the press.

You understand that those pushing for brexit were all for TTIP. And also pressure from French and German electorates and the EU parliament is giving the commission serious reservations about the treaty.

Reading up on it it looks like this anti-TTIP stuff is anti-American paranoia. It looks like it's a fear that we're becoming Americanized. Pretty sure that's gonna happen eventually anyway. I doubt that leaving the EU will make our NHS more under threat.

And the stuff about Anti GMOS.... Anti-GMO stuff is pseduoscience anyway. It's not like I agree with all EU policies it's just that the EU is obviously an overall good thing.

Why TTIP is a bad idea reason no 1, it will set up a court which can override national laws because they reduce profitability, and no national courts can't gainsay it.

But that wasn't a reason to vote brexit as brexiteers are all pro TTIP.

Governments and national banks are preaching the we won't let if happen gospel again. Which might convince some who haven't already heard the same sermon in 2008. Let's face it, the global economy took another hit, before having fully recovered from the last one. Ground zero, the Island. Fallout unpredictable.

When we voted to join the Eu Scotland voted against it.
When Scotland voted on leaving the UK they voted to stay.
When we voted on leaving the Eu they voted to stay.
Now they want to vote to leave the UK.
Could go either way LOL.

The dummies better get a guarantee that they can get into the EU before they jump out of the UK.

That was rather in jest, I would say. I spent the whole day, first watching Merkel's declaration at Berlin and then the debate at the European parliament. There have been quite a few touching moments. Such as Martin Schulz thanking the british commissioner, who resigned earlier and who broke down in tears in the plenum. Or the scottish MEP, Mathilda quoted earlier, saying that Scotland didn't leave the EU, so please don't leave Scotland.

I'm really not understanding the "it will get better, you'll see" response to us fucking ourselves (and others) over. Wouldn't it be even better if we didn't?

My argument is to look at the long term objective. Not 1 year from now. I'm talking 10, 20 years.

I don't think anyone has really suggested the short term economic collapse is a good thing, but I don't think it's as bad as the hysteria I keep seeing from people acting like it's the literal end of the world as we know it. Long term though do we want to continue being chained by an EU economy that has seen its GDP share globally fall and fall? That restrains us from making our own trade deals? 

The 'it will get better' response is because everyone is acting like we'll never recover at all.

Ok long term perspective. Scotland has left taking the north sea oil with it, NI is looking like leaving, and most importantly the financial services sector has left too (without the EU banking passports they have been forced to decamp to Luxembourg, Ireland &c. to keep servicing the tax evasion needs of EU based multinationals). Also the rich Russians, Saudis and other non EU oligarchs have liquidated their London assets, turning the square mile skyscrapers into ghost towns running down for lack of services. Coupled with the destruction of industry since the 80s this leaves the UK economy in a permanent shambles, thus dooming the country to third rate irrelevance from here on out.

Face it the UK is massively dependent on staying within the EU tradeblock, even if a government ever develops the intelligence and balls to start a new industrial revolution.
