The best encapsulation I ever read regarding the difference between chimps and bonobos ran something like, 'If you put a cardboard box into an enclosure with two chimps, they will fight over who gets to play with it. If you put a cardboard box into an enclosure with two bonobos, they'll climb into it and have sex.'
