As if to prove the point all double blind trials into prayer has demonstrated that it has no effect ie it is unsuccessful.

The only way to rationalise all of this is to assume there is no god to pray too.

Questions to the underlined. What trails are you referring to and who conducted them and under what premise?
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

If your a christian you're going to hell for your sins anyways so screw it. Don't do anything...just kill yourself. After all your going to hell right? I'm sure you've done something bad right?

Personally, other than wasting one's time I doubt that praying to the non-existent god of anything has any effect at all.

You don't ask for 'things.' You ask for help and support in times or need or want. Let's say, for instance, you need a promotion at your job or you wont be able to pay your power bill. You pray to God to help you get this promotion.

Prayer is like asking for help and support- it also means there must be work done on your end, too. If you pray to God for a promotion and then slack off at work, God is not going to do the work for you. But in asking for His support, you have earned it and are then much more backed up in any attempt you make to work harder at your job.

Christians tend to pray for things like the strength to persevere and moral support through times of emotional stress. The action of praying, does indeed, work for them when they pray for such things. Of course, atheists believe it is a placebo effect, but that does not make it any less effective. These same Christians think that their prayers will also work for other people. Telling someone, "I'll pray for you." might work for that person, because that person believes that it will... and again... the placebo effect.

That's got a lot to do with why they think prayer works, me thinks.

One can get a promotion by persevering and working hard, prayer or no prayer (unless, of course, your boss is an asshole, then you are screwed).

More effective to work harder and impress your boss rather than talking to yourself!

If you're female you can choose to also work smarter for that promotion. It only takes getting on your knees for a few minutes.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

It's the study funded by the Templeton Foundation on the effects of prayer.

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/31/health/31pray.html

Quote:Because it is the most scientifically rigorous investigation of whether prayer can heal illness, the study, begun almost a decade ago and involving more than 1,800 patients, has for years been the subject of speculation.
