EP, you keep saying it's a good idea, but you're not saying why.
Why is it a good idea? I'm not trying to tell you it's shitty; I just want to know what its purpose would be.

Oddly enough I was just thinking this would make an interesting idea for a site... not this site but a site... a site with no names. All users and posts identifiable behind the scenes of course, but no publicly visible usernames... and probably not a forum either per se but rather a place to write essays etc. So that all posts would be taken on their merits alone and there would be no possibility - barring people learning each other's writing styles or users actually identifying themselves in their posts - of popularity contests or peer pressure affecting responses. But you guys are saying this sort of thing already exists, EP with positive experiences of it and CD with negative - shitposting?

There's plenty of forums out there with anonymous posting enabled and it almost always gets abused. It's a shame that a few bad apples ruin it for everyone else, but I don't think it's worth the hassle for AF.  RE: Anonymous posting
