With respect to all Americans here, do you really want another country like the United States full of weapons, both for the police and for the citizens?
There are already more guns than people here. I should probably get my passport and get the fuck out of here while I can.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

If only the American police forces could adopt a UK/Australian model of getting rid of weapons, and giving licences out to all and sundry, perhaps the need for cops to have guns might diminish over time. The cops don't need guns, and neither do the citizens.
Both should be armed. Too many idiots out there who think guns are the answer to any sort of challenge or situation.

Well, I got out of England because there was so much violence. I mean, I lived in an area of about 10,000 habitants, but there were always stories of people being beaten up left, right and centre. All this from an area that has loads of cars, but very few people. The problem lies with the drug and alcohol scene I'm afraid. Add a gun to those, and it is a disaster waiting to happen.

What's scary here is that a) the cops have always had guns and b) they always used them. What has changed is that when they put video cameras in cell phones which promptly became ubiquitous we all learned that cops will twist the truth to suit themselves. Makes one wonder how many people are in cells or graves because of it.

So you're saying this has always been going on but we're just now knowing about it because of the cell phones? whose idea was it to put video cameras in cell phones? I mean, if I were into communication technology, I wouldn't naturally look at a cell phone and think, you know what this phone needs is a video camera.
What's scary is no matter what Americans do to protect themselves against fascism, the government always finds a way to counter it and make sure we stay helpless. And I'm not talking about Black Americans. I mean all of us. The Black community is just a testing ground for what they plan for everyone else.

Before video evidence what you had is:
Victim: That cop beat the shit out of me for no reason.
Cop: He was resisting, your honor.
Judge: Guilty as charged.
It was a basic tactic of plea-bargaining 101. The DA tells some poor dumb fuck "who do you think the jury will believe? You. Or a police officer?
Lots of people are rotting in jails right now because of that. Actual trials are rare.

I was not impacted. In my 28 years there, I got into one fight at school which was not in the catchment area. Apart from that, no. I generally kept myself to myself and tried not to go out either in a group, or with another person. You just have to be one step ahead of the hooligan element of society. I have a closeknit group of friends and it is the same with facebook.

I don't know. There's constantly news over breakins and stuff like that in my neighbourhood. I never felt the least bit threatened.

When I am outside, I just treat the others as I would like to be treated, even if it means saying hello to a stranger. It was one of my ex-gfs pet hates, because I knew more people than she did in her birthplace, simply because I gave the others the time of day and stayed polite.
