Right! When people believed the earth was fixed in space with the sun revolving around the earth. When people believed the stars were "hung" in the sky. Then "up" made sense because the universe was like a multi-storied house with hell in the basement.

depends on the religion. some say the ground is where you are most stable.

the bible says the first heaven is the sky with birds and clouds. the second heaven is space with the stars. and the third heaven was not explained and only 1 person was mentioned to have been there. i assume it is being one with god, but the bible isnt my books.

obviously humans are going to think UP. its where we look to with amazement. a place we couldnt get to, mysterious and tranquil. id love to live in the sky, and thus religious people give it godliness.
