First 45 (or track) and LP (or CD) you bought

RE: First 45 (or track) and LP (or CD) you bought
First single was the original release of Bruise Pristine by Placebo on vinyl. Must have been 13/14 at the time and could only get it from HMV in Oxford Street. It remains the only thing I have ever bought that has appreciated in value! First album I personally bought was I think Dookie by Green Day.

You don't know Kate Bush? I weep for you.

My two were Chemical Brothers Exit Planet Dust and DJ Shadow Entroducing, both bought around October of 97 with birthday and part time work money.

Still have both CDs but they are scratched to fuck and back.

I was just a kid, and I'm pretty sure it was '85. My older brother talked my sister and I into giving him whatever money we had, so he'd have enough to buy the album. He said, yes, we did want it...and promised partial ownership, and first crack at the television on Saturday mornings.

Pretty sure this was my first 45

This was definitely my first vinyl LP, received as a gift

However, the OP neglected to mention 8 track recordings, my first was an ancient Journey album some time around 1978, I don't recall which one. Yes, I had an 8 track player.

First CD

No, no.  No need.  My motto is it's never too late to have a happy childhood and I'm far from through.

I already posted the first album I bought, a few posts back: Synchronicity ( The Police).

This was the was the first cassette I purchased as a youngin', for this song in particular.
I just listened to it; it stands the test of time...pretty good song.

I'm positive the first CD I purchased was either the self-titled Rage Against the Machine or Evil Empire. Can't recall which one, specifically.
I'm not so angry these days, but I'm still a big fan. Tongue

In '76-'77 I bought Kiss Destroyer and thought it was the shit. I was ten. The Kiss infatuation didn't survive much past 5th grade, but my taste didn't really improve until I hit high school and came under the wing of this burned out hippie who owned the local record shop that practically became my second home and who schooled me on some really good stuff. However, I must say that I still don't understand his fascination with The Grateful Dead's "Truckin'".

I should also credit my high school band teacher, who gave me my first real taste of jazz. He played trumpet and introduced me to Armstrong, Gillespie, and Davis of course, but I also heard Bird, Coltrane, Monk, and Rollins for the first time, hanging out in his office during study hall thanks to a more or less permanent hall pass he was kind enough to give me. Mr. Piehl, I am forever in your debt.

But some things never go away, no matter how embarrassing they may be. I must confess: if I'm driving alone and "Rock and Roll All Night" comes on, I'll crank it up. Judge me if you will.

Bought my first LP (vinyl 'CD' for you whippersnappers) when I was in 8th or 9th grade at a Hecht's* department store in Maryland, just outside DC. My choice doesn't flatter me now, an Aussie folk band called "The Seekers". It was probably a best-of album. Their biggest hit was probably Georgie Girl which should be all you need to know. (No? What about "Come the day" or "Red Rubber Ball"? Never mind.) But wait, as long as I'm wallowing in it let me also confess my favorite cut from the album. It was the less well known "All Over the World", a tune so cloyingly sweet that dentists won't let you listen to it. If gender bending was a thing back then .. who knows?
