6 million fewer Democrats voted in 2016...

What a pity! I sensed complacency on the part of the Democratic party in the few weeks leading up to the election. Lots of discussion about the polls being wrong due to all of the people being polled lying about their preferences for Trump, but no one seems to have taken such speculation seriously. Turns out that Clinton never even set foot in Wisconsin during her entire campaign!

This is my biggest bitch at the moment.
If the same number of people had shown up this time for Hillary as they did last time for Obama, we'd all be excited about our next SCOTUS Justice because the Democratic majority in the Senate would allow Hillary to appoint pretty much anyone she wanted.
Instead, laziness and complacency has given us Trump, a GOP House and Senate, and a conservative Supreme Court for the next generation.
We can blame all the feckless assholes who voted for Trump, but they exercised their right to vote. They got out there and did their part for their cause. Instead of talking about a landslide victory and the repudiation of a crass liar who appealed to the worst in us, we are now dealing with some very dark times ahead.
It is difficult for me to muster sympathy for those who are going to get hit the hardest by this because due to their complacency, we're all going to pay the price.
Yeah, Hillary wasn't an exciting candidate. And sure, if Mitt Romney was running this time around, maybe a third party vote wouldn't have been so dangerous. But Donald Fucking Trump was the GOP's nominee. How do you not show up? When there was a chance to win the Senate, how do you not show up?
The Democratic party has serious problems, but none that can't be overcome by a get out the vote campaign starting a year from now, and then three years from now. A couple of short months ago there was serious discussion about the death of the Republican party. Well, look what happens when you don't vote.

I exercised my right to not vote, and yet I am not complaining about the direction the country went.

I am a just-shy 50 white dude, and my wife and I, and our oldest daughter and son, all voted for Hillary. What the hell is going on with the US?!

Not yet. Even if Trump nominates someone as Scalia to replace Scalia, you still have a makeup that advanced gay rights and continued to uphold Roe v Wade. Imperfect, of course -- Citizens United comes to mind -- but the midterms in 2018 are crucial to blocking any further nominations of his.

and it's 10,000,000 if you go back to Obama's first elect to prez.
10 million !!!
If they all suddenly became deplorable racists AFTER voting for Obama . . . .

Our SCOTUS Justices are old. At this point all we can hope for is that they don't retire or die. If that happens, we'll be looking at a 6-3 conservative majority. It's what I was hoping we'd get with a Hillary win, except in the other direction.
