Do you think it's time for America to ditch the party system
January 16, 2017 at 8:41 am
All it does is cause polarization and doesn't allow for anything to get done. Some people, not all on both sides of the political spectrum if for example a Republican see's a "D" in front of someone's name they're less likely to actually listen to their idea's and solutions. Can you imagine if we just had elections where every candidate was not allowed to identify with a certain party that way people would actually have to focus on the issues?
I suggested this somewhere else and of course some Contards thought I was somehow advocating for socialism or communism. lol All I'm advocating for is to get rid of the party system, no one identify with a party. Everyone is simply a fellow American with idea's and solutions and whoever has the best policy ideas should be put in office. Not the candidate you hate less or like just because they have a certain letter in front of their name

I think it's past time. To much bullshit.

Careful though! Conservatives across the internet don't like the concept of progressive change.

I'm a conservative. Bullshit is bullshit no matter what side you're on.

It'd be nice, but considering that it'd have to be enacted by people who were elected using party machinery, I won't be holding my breath.

Yes, I hate the two-party system. There are two issues here, though. How do we do away with it and what do we replace it with? It will be very difficult to remove what we have because the people in power want to stay in power. We also have to be sure that a replacement is actually an improvement and not just more of the same.

Yeah, the time to ditch it was when George Washington said "we shouldn't have a two-party system."

I would strongly advocate proportional representation at all levels of government.

Don't worry, my friend. If this be the end, then so shall it be.

At the root the issue is that people will naturally group together anyway. It's just what we do, and hard to escape given our evolving as a weak species that adapted to the environment using teamwork as a survival mechanism.
We may be able to do away with a formalized party system, but the factions GW warned about? Not so easily done, at all, IMO.

I suggested this somewhere else and of course some Contards thought I was somehow advocating for socialism or communism. lol All I'm advocating for is to get rid of the party system, no one identify with a party. Brits tried that for a couple of hundred years. To get anything passed massive bribes had to be paid, along the lines of corrupt men being appointed as chief taxcollectors for England, Ireland and Scotland; with all the skimming they could manage.
Eventually the system coalesced into today's Westminster.
