The Bible never says that God created the universe in six days. The first verse of Genesis 1 merely says that in the beginning he created the heavens and the earth. It doesn't give any details or tell how long it took.
The rest of chapter gives a detailed account of one part of that creation, the creation of the earth. It begins by saying that the earth was without form and void, and that it was in darkness. The planet itself already existed at this point and the six days tell how it was transformed and life was created on it. The first step was bringing light to it. Whatever barrier had been blocking the light from the sun was weakened enough so that light could reach the earth and on the fourth day it was completely removed so that the sun, moon, and stars became visible.
His invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

"Beginning:" a commencement or start ( http://www.freedictionary.com). The number "one" is the start of the measured numerical system. Another word indicating the position of a starting entity is "first." Why was there a "first day" if Genesis 1:1 was immune to the seven days of creation? Why wasn't it, "in a number of days," or "I'll let you know when I'm finished"? Yes, "bullshit" is the right word here.
