We doctored each other a couple times when poor undergrads. A couple of home grown stitchings and one burn patient treatment. Thankfully both the patients and physicians were sufficiently anesthetized.

For a couple years I thought the nerve damage would go away on it's own.
Back in the 80s I had a sliver in my leg so big I went to the ER. They were all, piece of cake, don't worry, yada, yada, yada. Well, LOL, it was a big deal getting it out, took an incision and a stitch. Glad I didn't try digging it out on my own. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Then you get doctors who can't take afternoons off to play golf. Nurses stop chasing rich doctors. The public sees those perks disappearing and people no longer want to become doctors. Plus the activities we were involved in that resulted in the injuries were not on the right side of the law. And if we did go, all of the dr. office supplies would have been looted as soon as we were left alone.
