No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear.

For example in German the word is Alptraum, which literally means 'elf dream', from the germanic mythological elves which were supposed to sit on the chests of sleeping people and cause bad dreams. (Unless I'm getting my mythologies mixed up?) It's similar in my native tongue, though the word isn't used anymore.
Tequila is an evil spirit.
Evil spirits? Bosh. Everyone knows (or should do) that nightmares are invisible, insubstantial black horses - always female, natch - who reside in the Gourd Realm, where they are presided over by the Night Stallion. The nightmares solemn duty is to bring bad dreams to the sleepers of Xanth. This is in no wise evil, as bad dreams are frequently instructive and useful to the sleepers. Here endeth the lesson.

No, this is a Nightmare...
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
