I've been watching a number of videos on the Kaikoura quake, a lot of which are jaw dropping, with spectacular rifts and rock falls plus the 6m upthrust of the Papaptea block. but looking at the simulation above and others it looks like something really odd happens around Christchurch towards the end of the quake. As everything else is settling down the peninsula continues to shake for a long time.
