Why not, the GOP elected this moron and is the same party that gave us Bush Jr's two failed wars, and wasn't Iraq supposed to compensate for both because the oil we captured?
If this was the "Quagmire" from the cartoon Family Guy, I would find this funny, but I don't, only ironic and hypocritical. I could live with a quagmire but with all the bullshit demagoguery Trump sold and even attacks on intel during his run and after his oath, a 3rd world war would not surprise me. It's probably a mistake to assume any sort of logic was being utilized.

My take, I'd prefer that the US had not taken this action. For now, I see this as just a slap on the wrist for Assad for breaking the 2013 agreement of no more chemical weapons deployment (which Russia said it would enforce). I doubt 59 missiles will significantly adversely impact Assad's ability to wage civil war. It's my understanding that the Russians on the ground were warned.
Lets see how the rest of the world reacts, especially Syrian allies. It may end up bad. If it's just a slap and Trump does nothing more, what then?
I'm not quite ready to be the harbinger of gloom and doom.
