I've encountered a few.

J is doing fine, despite being conservatively religious, stopped on her own w/o church or 12 steppers

R went 'cold turkey' on his own. I've only known him since sobriety so I don't know what he was like before or during his addiction, but he's a miserable son of a bitch now.

D went 'cold turkey' after a dire medical emergency. He could be doing much better, or much worse . . . .

W went 'cold turkey' after a DUI, I'm not sure how to eval his course since, he's had a rough go, but hard to say if sobriety had much of an effect in causing problems or helping him
 The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
