Trump revealed highly classified information to Russ. foreign minister and ambassador

The information the president relayed had been provided by a U.S. partner through an intelligence-sharing arrangement considered so sensitive that details have been withheld from allies and tightly restricted even within the U.S. government, officials said.

“This is code-word information,” said a U.S. official familiar with the matter, using terminology that refers to one of the highest classification levels used by American spy agencies. Trump “revealed more information to the Russian ambassador than we have shared with our own allies.”

Trump went on to discuss aspects of the threat that the United States learned only through the espionage capabilities of a key partner. He did not reveal the specific intelligence-gathering method, but he described how the Islamic State was pursuing elements of a specific plot and how much harm such an attack could cause under varying circumstances. Most alarmingly, officials said, Trump revealed the city in the Islamic State’s territory where the U.S. intelligence partner detected the threat.

The Washington Post is withholding most plot details, including the name of the city, at the urging of officials who warned that revealing them would jeopardize important intelligence capabilities.

“Everyone knows this stream is very sensitive, and the idea of sharing it at this level of granularity with the Russians is troubling,” said a former senior U.S. counterterrorism official who also worked closely with members of the Trump national security team. He and others spoke on the condition of anonymity, citing the sensitivity of the subject.

The identification of the location was seen as particularly problematic, officials said, because Russia could use that detail to help identify the U.S. ally or intelligence capability involved. Officials said the capability could be useful for other purposes, possibly providing intelligence on Russia’s presence in Syria. Moscow would be keenly interested in identifying that source and perhaps disrupting it.

Interesting and we will never know what was said if anything. Realize Russia along with the Trump and most of the military want to get rid of IS. Problem is IS was also used by the CIA as a proxy army to help overthrown certain regimes we wanted to destroy. Personally I think everyone doesn't seem to understand that the US works with Russia and has been for a long time. The military still trains with Russians here in the US, and has been for years. It's almost like there is this public perception that Russia is our enemy, even when we still work with them on the international space station. It appears to me that nothing major happened, and this is a story created to add to the Russian hysteria that Trump colludes with the Russians which won him the election. I think the public may not understand these are the type of discussions that are held at this level. The only reason it's a big deal is because the public has the Russian collusion narrative, and this fits into it, which is really doesn't because there is no evidence yet to prove it. Just theories about why Clinton lost. The neo-cons want Russia to be the enemy and make the American people think Russia is the enemy. Russia is far from perfect, but at higher levels working together on some common interests. I'd prefer not to go to war with Russia myself, even though they have been pushing this narrative for a long time I think to really scare the public into accepting policy positions on other matters.

Yeah disclosing code level intelligence to the top Russian spies is nothing big. Our ability to continue to gather this information doesn't get compromised at all.

This information is presumably the information that spurred this new push to ban laptops and larger electronics in the cabin on flights from Europe. It came from a source inside Syria that has zero confidence, clearly, in this administration moving forward. (Hopefully some serious damage control can save this asset for us)

Let's say the next time there is an intelligence windfall like this, we don't get this information, and it results in a terrorist attack, because we didn't have the information necessary to take preventative steps, like banning laptops on flights.

I kind of thought this is why it's a story. For me it's a false narrative. Both are in the fight against IS. The whole Russian collusion is mainly false anyway. Even Comey said there is no evidence but they are still investigating. The Neo-cons are still using the same strategy Zbigniew Brzezinski which is the father of Mika Brzezinski on MSNBC. Just like his book the grand chessboard, this is geopolitical. I'm not sure why the left wants to go to war with Russia. Clinton was saying the same thing for years. None of you want to go to war with North Korea, but are happy to go to war with Russia?
