I've never seen one of those in my life except on Saved By The Bell... are they a big thing in America... presumably to stop your pen leaking in your pocket?

That, and it keeps the pocket material from fraying from the clip on the pen or pencil sliding in and out a zillion times. When I worked in an auto parts store, we had them, as we hand wrote our receipts for purchases.

As far as atheism not being cool, this guy is a tool. HE thinks we aren't. As if I give a pinch of feces what he thinks, in any event.

1) Hitler; catholic all his life, and most of the major nazis were either catholic, lutheran or reformed. Those who weren't were revivalist germanic pagans.
2) Stalin; orthodox for the vast majority of his life
3) Enver Pasha, Jevdet Bey, Talaat Pasha, Djemal Pasha, Şükrü Kaya, Mustafa Ataturk (some of the leading lights of the Armenian genocide), all devoutly muslim
4) Pol Pot; a weird mix of buddhism and jesuitical catholicism
5) Shrub Bush, anglican>methodist (though frankly his true religion was ever moneyism, as is common with all religious leaders)

7) Aang Sung Suu Kyi (responsible for the continuation of the Rohingya genocide in Burma since she took power); buddhist
8) Narendra Modhi (responsible for many progroms and massacres of non hindus within India); hindu

You can notice the one conspicuous omission, which is Mao Tse Tung. He's the only one we can be reasonably certain was atheist, but even with him, there was a large co-option of religion and religious practice to legitimise his rule. The current Chinese fad for neo-confucianism (the slight changing of the cunfucian religion to support the CPC's autocratic rule) stems from Mao.
