Lurkers up the wazoo
July 7, 2017 at 4:25 pm
(This post was last modified: July 7, 2017 at 4:25 pm by Silver.)
Every time I check the front page, I like to take notice of who is currently on the forum.
One thing I notice is that we have guests up the wazoo, constantly.
Quote:97 users active in the past 15 minutes (18 members, 4 of whom are invisible, and 76 guests).
Seriously, what is the point of being a guest when you can join in on the fun?
Or are those lurkers banned members who cannot seem to let go?

I am a regular lurker, here and on many other forums. Some are bots, some are deciding if they want to pitch in, some are too shy too etc.
I lurk on some serious science forums, I am a member, but the archaeology forums are quite quiet and I just could not say anything worth contributing elsewhere.
Maybe I don't do here either? Sorry lurkers.

I lurked here for probably a year before I joined. -Granted, I only poked my head in every few months. I'll be 100% honest, AF struck me as being a lot less welcoming to theists than I was really ready to deal with. I also thought there'd be a lot of cliques for me to have to break into or work around. Maybe others are intimidated by the same thing and are reluctant to join.

Back in 1993 when I could only have access to the internet 30 minutes a day on a 14400 Modem, I'd download usenet forums and print them to read offline. That was some hardcore lurking.

They could also be members who just aren't logged in.

I assume one would have to log out first for that to be an option . . . .

What is this logging out you speak of?

I tried it once at a highway road sign fan site (IANMTU) and I've never been able to log back on . . . .
