Because mother goose or grimm's doesn't insufferably pretend to be something other than a fairly tale, nor do people who read them attempt to geather political influence to force me to conform to any rediculous stricture that might be gleam from them, nor do they attempt to seat themselves on school boards to push any bullshit about the universe contained within fairy tales at the expense of science to my children.

So they are harmless. Think of Mother Goose or Grimm's as if they were gesting with a water pistol, which is funny to watch. Think of Christianity as doing its bestial best to assault human rationality and spiritual independence with IEDs, which is dangerous.

Just so you don't feel singled out, we hate the Koran as well, as well as any other ancient fairytale text that is extensively used as a unchallengeable basis for constricting modern human thought.

No.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

I didn't realise that Mother Goose has caused the deaths of countless lives, although seeing as Stalin killed all those people in the name of atheism, maybe you're right.

I never said that I "hate" the Bible. What I hate is how people have used the Bible throughout history to justify heinous acts.

And please show me where people have gone to war or killed others because of Mother Goose or Grimm's Fairy Tales.

You bring up Stalin as an example of how atheism kills people. You are rebuked because Stalin killed people in his own self interest, NOT because of atheism. You respond by citing an example of a guy who was IMPRISONED (NOT killed) in ROMANIA (NOT by Stalin)!

And so what? I can give you a much longer list of people who were killed by believers for NOT BELIEVING than you could ever muster up for believers who were killed for their beliefs by atheists.

Wasn't Christianity one of the tenets of the crusades, of the inquisition, of the 30 years war, of the witch hunts, of the ethnic cleansing practiced in the Bulkans during WWII and again in the 1990s. Was it not one of the tenets of Franco's facist regime in Spain and the murderous dictatorship of Pinochet? How many people did Christianity burn at the stake for refusing to recant their non-Christian views when Christianity last had the power to do so?

Wurmbrand was a Romanian who tried to oppose the communist government of Romania. He was not shot.

I wonder why not?

What an incredibly sanctimonious and naive thing to say.

People don't like to see bibles in their hotel rooms because everywhere they turn they are getting religion rammed down their throats. When you are on holiday the last thing they want to be reminded of is that there are people constantly banging on at them that they must accept Christ as their saviour or they are going to burn in hell. I mean, what an anticlimax that is!

Easy solution: Turn from sin and receive Christ as Savior and you won't feel this way. Problem solved. See how easy that is?

I can get a smoke-free room at any hotel. Perhaps I should demand a religion-free room? Religion has done far more harm than smoking over the centuries.

Look at what atheism did under Joseph Stalin. Millions of Christians as well as millions of others sent to gulags or killed.

Can someone ban this guy? Arrgghh

Quote:For the umpteenth time ( note to admins: This is where the "no idiot rule" really hurts) try to get it through your thick skull that Stalin killed people because they opposed COMMUNISM

I wouldn't even go that far Min.

From what I can see ,Stalin killed millions of people because he thought they opposed or might oppose Stalin. The was a paranoid psychopath. He also seem to have been an atheist, although I understand he also studied for the priesthood at some point.

Hey Min, don't bother with Maynard G Krebs. There's no rule which says we have to suffer fools. There is however, one against proselytising,I think.

Quote:It really bugs me when I check into a hotel room and there's religious propaganda (a bible) in the night stand drawer. This also seems discriminatory. If you're going to stick a Bible in the drawer, why not also a Koran? Or the Talmud? Or the Rigveda? Why do Christians get to stick their holy book in hotel rooms but not other religions?

Um beacuse its the hotels choice?

Quote:The sorts of people who read bibles in hotel rooms are just the sort who would bring their own bible with them. And yes, it is a statement. By allowing bibles in their rooms the hoteliers are saying that they cater specifically for Christians and not for any other faith, or lack of it.

Have you been to a country which isnt predominatley Chrstian?
I have and lo and behold, there was the teachings of Buddha! I got so angry! Not really, I thought it was great.
Its ok to have doubt, just dont let that doubt become the answers.

You dont hate God, you hate the church game.
