1. You're using folklore to prove mythology.

I've seen the Hollywood imagery of disciples holding their heads high, waiting to be reunited with their savior, while dastardly Romans throw them to the lions, etc. Got any proof it actually happened?

2. People die all the time for crazy cults.

David Koresh, Jim Jones, The Heaven's Gate cult, the list goes on. Fanaticism proves nothing.

Take care in making assumptions based on lack of response.

I don't suffer fools. That means I rarely bother directly answering most apologists.Unless of course I'm really bored or one of 'em says something especially ignorant.

My views are not a secret; if I had my way, believers would not be permitted on any atheist forum.Few add any anything, most lower the tone, and some even manage to lower the average IQ. Of course there are exceptions. Currently I can think of one; Tacky.

"You are so closed to the truth that you would RATHER go to Hell than be saved.

Jesus describes you perfectly below:

"And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved." - John 3:19-20 "

Excuse me for the quoting fail - I am new to this forum.

I seriously laughed so hard I started crying here.

The world is not black and white, dude. I don't hate goodness ("light?"). How could a nurse hate goodness..? Let me reiterate that I love others, I care about everybody, and I respect others' opinions while thinking for myself based on my own rationale. I'm not "evil." I am a very kind, empathic person and I live my life like this because that's what I WANT, not because some diety commands me to (and threatens me with punishment if I don't obey - aka your "Hell." This is the kind of relationship many children have with their parents!)

Again, I don't believe in god and that doesn't make me evil in any sense! There is no such thing as a hell or a heaven and I don't need to be "saved," thank you. You aren't backing up a thing that you're saying here. As much as I'm sure you love your little fairy tale, I advise you to do some thinking for yourself.

Do tell me, what makes something good versus "evil?" Is a deed's worth based on intention (regardless of a god), or is it based on what "god says," or something else, perhaps?

Please tell me why the hell you are on this forum. I am guessing it's because you want to "save" us and "spread the word of god." I recommend you reread what I wrote and what the other people wrote who replied to my topic here.

All you have is you "faith." Faith is a blind belief; a belief that you hold based on no evidence. That is rather foolish, in my opinion.
Show me your proof/back up your claims and then I will consider your argument. That's only fair.

Let me ask you a question:

During the aftermath of the Waco siege, did you spend even five seconds contemplating whether or not David Koresh was truly who he said he was? After all, he and his followers were all willing to die for their beliefs. Or did you dismiss them as crazy cultists?

When the news of the Heaven's Gate cult broke, where they all committed suicide, did you even pause to consider whether or not they really believed they were going to fly on the comet to Heaven? After all, they were willing to die for their beliefs. Or did you just think how nuts they were and go on with your life?

What was your reaction when you heard about Jim Jones in history class? Did their willingness to die for their beliefs give you any reason to consider them as anything more than a tragic cult?

When you understand how their willingness to die for their beliefs fails to impress you, you understand how your "would they die for a lie" argument fails to impress us.

Quote:You had better be careful, you will face God at the Judgment.

Another question:

Do you spend even a split second worrying about what will happen if you face Muhammad and Allah on judgment day? The possibility hasn't even entered your mind, has it? And yet, it's no less possible than your scenario, or a million other afterlife speculations.

When you understand how the Muslim Hell isn't real to you, you understand why your hell isn't real to me.

Lizzle Wrote:All right, I'm in a bad mood. It seems like every website I am a member of has people that just assume that everyone believes in god (and no, I won't capitalize 'god' - that is just ridiculous!).

Even if you don't believe in God, believe that you're supposed to capitalize proper nouns. Just busting your balls Tongue

Lizzle Wrote:I am sick and tired of people who assume that everyone believes in 'morality' (because there is 'only one way of looking at morality'.. hah! ...that was sarcasm). Just the other day I was watching one of the Law and Order shows (my favorite is SVU, but this was a different one) and I literally had to shut off the TV because the end of the show came down to stuff based on 'god' versus the legal system. I was just so perturbed by this.. I mean, seriously? Can we please use our logic here?

I think Law and Order is win when they take current events and inject them into the series.

Lizzle Wrote:Look, I don't have a problem if someone believes in god, but if it's 'assumed' that I believe in one or I'm asked about my 'religion,' I'm going to tell the truth. I'm an atheist and I have been for years. The world is/has been made of science. Sure, I believe Jesus and stuff existed, or something, but I do always say to keep in mind that a number of drugs were big back then. In addition, Jesus likely had schizophrenia characterized by grandiose delusions ('I am the son of god!'). I'm not trying to be condoning, I believe this is a likely possibility.

People assume that others are like them because it's human nature. We shouldn't be so judgmental as they.

Lizzle Wrote:Oh yeah, Hitler.

I'm going to invoke Godwin's Law. Jesus wasn't known for gassing people or starting wars. If anything, his followers were delusional. Maybe they even made him up. And Hitler had more problems than religion.

Lizzle Wrote:Scientology is no more ridiculous and illogical than christianity. That's right, not at all.

Scientology started out malicious and the founder was a felon/known science fiction writer. The religion incorporates themes from far out science fiction novels. Christianity is way more believable.

Lizzle Wrote:All you have is you "faith." Faith is a blind belief; a belief that you hold based on no evidence. That is rather foolish, in my opinion.

I once showed you the definition in which faith isn't blind. This is simply not true in all cases, but in context you are correct.

Lizzle Wrote:The world is not black and white, dude. I don't hate goodness ("light?"). How could a nurse hate goodness..?

Forgive me for pointing it out, but how do we know that of a nurse in a world which is not black and white? DUN DUN DUN

NO! That study isn't scientific. This is the type of stuff that only makes the debate more incendiary.

EDIT: Refined what I said for everyone's sake Argue

Just because you find a definition does not make it true. Not only is faith blind,

Quote:Faith must trample under foot all reason, sense, and understanding.
Martin Luther

Some made a virtue out of that blindness.
