Maybe they are more afraid of those pesky questions atheist are prone to asking ??
Like, "So do you believe Jesus was crucified on Maundy Thursday or Good Friday or both days ?".
Right there their Salvation is on the line and they are afraid a wrong answer is going to earn them red hot eels up their buttholes eating them from the inside out over and over for all eternity in HELL.

Jesus Fucking Christ, if Satan don't hire me as a consultant, he is really missing out on some hard core demonic fun, ain't he ?

That's because they can't imagine not believing, so if we don't believe in the "good god" (patent pending) then we must believe by default in the "bad god".
I can't imagine believing myself, seems like a strange thing to do, so I have some sympathy for their position.

and atheists have been known to ask theists why they aren't molesting poisonous adders and swilling cantarella . . . .

They believe that they will go to Heaven, while atheists go to Hell. So they think that in the end they will win. So why are they so angry at atheists? It might be human nature to be self centered and to be an asshole, but is it more to it? Are they actually afraid that atheists might be right? Are they afraid that the majority will become atheists and they will become the minority? Are they afraid that their enormous egos will be hurt?
As there are theists that......discriminate against atheists there are also atheists that discriminate against theists.
It goes both ways At.
I am theist but I don't believe in hell.
I believe that at the end when people will have sorted out their own problems then they all will achieve the nirvana whether they are theists or ex-atheists or ex-criminals or ex-religious fanatics.
Yes, there is discrimination both ways, but usually religious discriminate. I'm glad that you are an exception, you wish for a happy end for everyone!

Like with everything else, I'm sure it just depends on the theist. Doesn't make much sense to make any sort of blanket statement about a group that includes billions of people.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Of course they fear us. We are living proof that their silly-assed god is not essential for life. These people constantly seek validation for their absurd beliefs. We are the antithesis of those beliefs.... and we are growing in numbers while they die off.

Some theists could be disconterted with mere existence of atheists shows that belief in whatever flavor of sky daddy isn't universal. Guess sheep can feel uncomfortable when someone openly dismiss their primitive and childish tales.
The first revolt is against the supreme tyranny of theology, of the phantom of God. As long as we have a master in heaven, we will be slaves on earth.

The group there in your post is divided 70,000 different ways, just on the Christian side . . .
So, yeah, let's not generalize.
