What would you do if you found out God existed

I am a bit late to this thread, and other people have already responded more or less as I would have, so I will only comment on this last bit.

PLEASE, CL, please tell me that this is you just being facetious! You've been here long enough to understand (hopefully Dodgy) that we are not 'angry at the idea of a god', we actually do not believe a god exists.

What is it? Is your automatic Catholic indoctrination kicking in? I've had more than my share of Catholics dishonestly inform me, that I am an atheist because I am 'angry at god'.

I know you don't believe God exists. Which is why I didn't suggest that you were angry AT God, I said the IDEA of God. As in, you wouldn't like it if God did exist and would be angry at Him if He was real. Anyway that's been my impression of most people here, and has nothing to do with "catholic indoctrination", as you put it, since nothing in catholic doctrine states that atheists are angry at God. But as I said earlier in the thread, I must have misunderstood/misinterpreted people's sentiments.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

IDK, intentional insensitivity seems far worse to me.  People cannot help when they are ignorant of something, and that state can be remedied, so they don't do it again.

His insensitivity seems intentional to me, anyway.

It is true. Everything I said here was intentional, and was said after long, long thinking.

Humans never learn from the sick. They never learn from the pain of others. That's why our world is in the state it's in right now. Kill, rob, murder, cause disabilities, do all evil but make sure to leave with a smile and a whisper: "everything will be ok! "
RE: What would you do if you found out God existed
For me, one definition of a "good god" would be that he/she/it wouldn't use a hell to torture people forever simply because they weren't interested (for whatever reason) in worshiping he/she/it. The only thing worse than worshiping something, laying down in mindless adoration regardless of what the thing does or is, is allowing one's self to be worshiped.

Should such a god show up for a chat, bringing along whatever was needed to convince me I was really dealing with a god and some kind of delusion, I would likely ask just one question. "This is the best you could do?" Then I would likely just go about my life, doing the best I can do to learn what I can learn, know what I can know, and garner as much wisdom and compassion as I can.

No, he won't...and that;s the really important bit, because you need to get help, not allah...regardless of whether or not there's an allah.

Right................"demons and sorcerors" should be afraid of you. Add to that list, your own fragile self. That;s who should fear you and your allah fetish, more than any witch uttering cantrips. Demons and sorcerers don't exist, you can't hurt them.

You do, you can.

You had a conversation with Him for many many hours, over the course of many days in a row, and He even showed you things... like certain things in the future of humanity so you could see how everything will ultimately fall together. He took you back in time so you could see particular events, including many moments from the life of Jesus. He showed you what the afterlife is like, fully answered every single one of your questions about why He allows certain things to happen, etc, and cleared up all misconceptions and misunderstandings you have had that made you think He was bad.

Let's say you came away from all that realizing God isn't who you thought He would have been, but is actually completely good. Would you then want to be with Him? Want to follow His ways? Feel remorse for the times in your life when you acted wrongly?

...Or would you feel angry and continue on hating the idea of God (even after learning He actually is good), hating the idea of having to "answer" to a higher being, etc?

I would simply say "thank you."

Being disabled doesn't give him the right to say what he did. If he wants to say that about himself - so be it. But how about not lumping every other disabled person in the same category as his stupid ass.

It should be mandatory for some people to have to take a sensitivity training class before being allowed to socialize with other people. IJS.

I have feelings; but I know exactly that they ruined the moment for me more than once. You must learn to think in an isolation from feelings; we're insignificant beings, and the more we look at the time stream around us, and everything else existing; we just know that we aren't that significant. We're only significant to each other.

Skies and other planets are bigger than us; been around longer than us; a single body in the cosmos might have a life span that exceeds ours combined as a race.

I think that nothing helped me more than thinking like this. I'm not significant but to myself; really. So my pain is mine to adapt to; and mine to overcome. And I'll tell every healthy person to look at me and learn to cherish what they have; because they are so lucky. But am I luckier for touching their lives this way?

I'm not that self-centered; Nymphadora. Yes; I might be selfish sometimes (all humans are to some degree), but I know very well that deep inside the minds of others, they pretty much think and picture many images that they don't like to tell about. I love to remind them (and remind myself; too) that we as humans, are insignificant creatures. It's an honor; not a shame. Disabled people should never be ashamed.

While this scenario is highly improbable to happen, but let's play this for a moment shall we? I'll obviously ask him why he allows suffering if he is omnibenevolent? Why did we inherit the sin of Adam? Isn't this unjust? Why did you kill your son? Why not just forgive us if you are omnibenevolent and spare your son the suffering and torture that he was forced to endure? There are so many questions I'd like to ask your god. To be honest, your god is not good, he is unjust and merciless. Your bible condones slavery and all sorts of horrible acts. Yes, yes, that was the old testament, but it's still the same triune god.

Love is about love
NOT GENDER
