We all can be thankful

I am thankful for my mom, and the fact that she made my life easier. I am thankful that tomorrow I won't be forced to attend church or a mosque or synagogue either.

I hate that some take Christmas day literally too. But I am not such a fucking dick that while I object to the logic of the history, that I am going to condemn anyone for having a day off and spending time with their family.

My favorite holiday is New Years Day because all the hype is over. So if I post ABBA's "Happy New Year" video, and I will, does that mean I want to kill everyone who doesn't like ABBA?

Point is, there is a time for arguing logic, blasphemy and simply wishing people well.

I could give a shit what they call tomorrow. To me it is an excuse to drink beer, and watch football.

Sure, I can go with all of that. But the fact is that thanksgiving simply does not exist outside the US. Nobody else cares. Americans might believe that everyone else cares but nobody does. It is a peculiar 5% that does and not even all of them.

Seems to me the you are in the same place as the Great British Empire from days of yore. Same blindness, same irrelevance. Same result.

The US could retain relevance, true.
but not when they elect a squirrel haired idiot as commander in chief.

Have Americans no idea how everyone in the international community views this?

Yea and?

America is also NOT the center of the planet.

Again, if you want to attack the religious connotations of the holiday fine. But don't sit there and claim Hanukkah or Ramadan deserve any more or less attention or validity because we don't celebrate those holidays.

I find all religious holidays ABSURD, but good luck in stopping any of any religion worldwide.

At least in the west we are not forced to celebrate and can simply look at as a day off and excuse to be with family.

And you are REALLY fucking pissing me off considering tomorrow will be my first Thanksgiving WITHOUT my mom. Now, again, I don't buy the history or religion behind the intent. But YOU ARE fucking pissing me off knowing that if my mom were still alive, I'd be sharing a Thanksgiving meal with her and watching football with her.

Now, keep pissing me off, because you will get the same fucking response. FUCK YOU.

Tomorrow I will be watching football, AND wishing my mom were STILL alive to share the day with.

Well Happy thanksgiving, but 95% of the rest of the world cares not a whit. What are you thankful for?

Grateful to whom?

Well if not for a break here and there we could be that which we are glad we are not, so remember the next time you are feeling unfortunate there is always those who are very much worse off and I'll bet that some of them are grateful for what they have no matter how little it might be. Eat well my friends and enjoy your family and friends because next year we may not have some of them, so count your blessings and at least think of those who have far less than you do.
And what will you be doing besides gorging on food that others have not? Personally, I have DD's to various charities. Child blindness, child victims of the Syrian conflict and so forth. You seem to want to stuff your face with excess because "christians".

No. I will be wishing "Happy Thanksgiving" to those who deserve it TYVM. You forget that "Thanksgiving" is an american oddity celebrating a genocide.

No, thanks.

LOL, you mad bro?

Well what are we going to call it in the UK? Because as already pointed out the first thing on most brit's minds will be; who are we thanking and what are we thanking them for. Ok, poms seldom need an excuse for a pissup but just the word 'thanksgiving' is to me, decidedly alien.
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.

RE: We all can be thankful
I think people are taking this thread "out of context", as we atheists apparently do so often.

GC is wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving.

Accept the gesture.

Though it's not a thing here, Happy Thanksgiving to GC and all of my US friends.

I can put my "fangs" aside for one day. We can argue over the fact that you are full of crap any other day, but tomorrow, get sleepy on the tryptophan, booze, pumpkin pie, shout at your team losing, try not to beat up your family members and hug each other. Big Grin

Fuck no! Christmas starts in November, Easter starts in February and those once quaint and harmless little diversions; mothers day, valentines day, et al, are now festivals. Be gone with you sir!

I also get annoyed with the commercialism of ALL holidays, but we can make that a separate issue too.

Sometimes you CAN put your arguments aside and wish others well.

Point of order: Canada celebrates Thanksgiving, too. In October. So, it’s not just a US holiday.
