RE: New Star Wars movie is well received by the critics.

A few random thoughts concerning the movie, things that struck me or that I wonder how will be resolved in the final chapter. Massive spoilers, don't look until after you see the movie.
Also, can we maybe start an open spoiler thread for this movie? So those who see it can chat without fear of accidentally spoiling someone else, and not having to use constant tags? Or should I just take my Fangirl self over to some SW forum to talk about it? lol. I'd rather talk to folks I know, though.
Luke said he would give Rey 3 lessons.
The first was in the nature of the Force.
The second was in the nature of the Jedi (and why he thought they needed to end).
Unless I'm much mistaken, he never got to give her the third lesson, she leaves after Ben reveals the truth and Luke confirms the origins of Kylo Ren.
I'm glad as hell that Rey is a nobody. I hated all the parental theories, and I do think that nobody parents was the correct choice (and it was my guess for ages now anyway, based on the info we had).
What is going on with the mirrors in the pit? That seemed like it was meant to echo how Luke faced a shadow of Vader and saw himself on Degobah, and indeed she has the same outcome when seeking her parents and finding herself. With Luke's vision, because he had to face the darkness in himself, the vision made more immediate sense. Maybe I'm slow, but I am not immediately picking out the meaning of this scene. Though I love that she confessed it to Ben, and he just listened. If anyone has thoughts on this scene, I'd love to hear them.
So, I guess Snoke was no one, and we won't get a backstory on him? It's kind of an odd choice, to just kill him off so Ren can become the next Supreme Leader, but I'll go with it. Kinda wish we got something on Snoke, even like he's from outside their Galaxy, or just that he's someone really old who'd come back. I don't need 100% explained, but a blurb somewhere would be nice. Maybe we'll get it in the last movie.
Forgive me this one weakness, but shirtless Adam Driver, and the wet glove bit a bit later...be still my beating heart. /fans self.
This makes up for years of you lads getting Leia in a gold bikini.
I'm sure more will occur to me, but I'll try and hold out until one of you fellows sees it so I have someone besides myself to talk to about these things, lol.

When it comes to SW you'll watch it if it's your drift, you don't care about what film critics say.
Time, I reckon. I can remember that at one point, Phantom Menace was rated Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Currently, it's sitting at 55%. Most of the Star Wars movies are Certified Fresh; Attack of the Clones is merely fresh, and Phantom Menace has fair-to-middling reviews. There does appear to be one thing to make the critics trash it: shitty animation.
The Clone Wars movie got a 19% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Comparing the Universal Oneness of All Life to Yo Mama since 2010.
I was born with the gift of laughter and a sense the world is mad.

I liked it a lot overall. Any scene with Luke was great. The Rey/Kylo scenes were great. But a few things I didn't like:
-Superman Leia. Come on, that was ridiculous. It just looked so stupid to me.
-The entire Finn/Rose subplot. Especially the scenes on Canto Bright. I just didn't really give two shits about any of it, I was actually bored. They could have shaved 20 minutes off right there.
-The conflict between Admiral Purple Hair and Poe was utterly ridiculous. How much could have been avoided if she just told him the fucking plan? Like, there was an entire mutiny and entire SUBPLOT (Finn/Rose) that happened simply because of a lack of communication.
I know that sounded harsh and super critical but I really really liked the rest of the movie aside from those things.

Well.. Snoke is a supreme leader of the first order pre-death star destruction (the first one and second one). Also Snoke isn't a Sith it already has been confirmed
so he was just some guy.

I was a bit annoyed regarding the Rey's family revelation, but when you think of the whole Skywalker line, it makes sense.
I'll be interested to see where the last episode of the Skywalker saga takes us.
Hands down, FAR superior to Force Awakens.
Thanks for taking the time to post a quick review. I thought Force Awakens was very good, so by your description of Last Jedi (seeing as you're a fellow Star Trek, Star Wars, and Sci-fi fan), it seems that I (along with others) will probably really enjoy this movie. Perhaps I'll see it with one of my buddies who is going to be stopping by my area around Christmas time.
