Exactly, I mean just read this recent news:
Quote:House Speaker Paul Ryan regards 2018 as a chance to fulfill the ambitions he brought to Congress 20 years ago: reshaping the social safety net for the poor and disabled, as well as programs including food stamps and Medicaid. He said Wednesday he’s focused on getting people from welfare to work.
“People want able bodied people who are on welfare to go to work, they want us to get people out of poverty, into the workforce,” Ryan said in a Fox News interview late Wednesday. “That’s good for them, that’s good for the economy, that’s good for the federal budget.”
The White House has laid groundwork for cutting welfare programs. The president’s 2018 budget proposal sought steep reductions in food stamps, Medicaid health insurance payments, Social Security disability benefits, low-income housing assistance and block grants that fund meals-on-wheels for the elderly.

Yet he fails to understand that Welfare recipients are already working, but are not reciving living wage.
Truly, if you want to fight against abortions then push for better jobs and opportunities for women (and men), higher minimal wage, better social security, better and more afordable education.
Oh but no, they rather just avoid all that, oppress women and make a show how abortion is immoral in all cases.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

How does one approach a subject like this when emotions, opinions, and a personal morality that goes to the very core of each one of us?
It’s very hard to put a number on a personal morality, though I accept for the sake of the law some limit must be put on it, the fact that it causes so much debate shows us that feelings on this subject are varied, not only from person to person, but alter and shape us through our life and experiences.
When my then partner at the time was pregnant with our daughter I felt a sense of wonder and some detachment, that is till the child growing without started to move, wake my partner then me at nights. My instinct as well as those of my partner kicked in and I began to adjust to the idea of being a father I felt a growing bond as I felt my child move in her belly, not once did I ever consider the question of viability or could this be considered a child yet. For a woman who feels her baby inside her I cannot even imagine how she must feel.
Of course we wanted our child, but not once did I think of the pregnancy in terms of when my daughter became a living being, from I found out my partner was pregnant I was filled with awe and a great deal of wonder.
I ended up being a single parent, and raised my daughter by myself (with the help of my sister and friends), this life changed me forever, I began to realise what selfless love (insofar as we can understand it) is, I realised that from conception I had looked forward to, and been actively involved in preparing for what was ahead. My daughter has continued to shape my heart and life, and I would not have missed a single second, she is so dear and precious to me.
For me at least to put a figure on a child in the womb seems alien, I realise there are some very good reasons for abortions and some legality has to be applied, I have supported friends who have had abortions, and I love them dearly but not for a single one was it an easy choice I hope with all my heart it never becomes an easy choice or decision for anyone.
But most of all, much as I now oppose organised religion, I will never use to score cheap points against those who love and seek to protect life whatever their reasons.
I will continue to campaign for a woman’s right to do what she wishes with her own body, but most my effort will go into supporting education to try and prevent such unwanted pregnancy in the first place.

Watched (and you should too) the piece on 60 Minutes last night about free mobile medical clinics in SW Virginia. Easy to see EXACTLY where that sentiment and view of modern era US Christians arises, ain't it ??
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
