'Blasphemy is a victimless crime' is utter arrogance

I agree with you those are not crimes, I asked what would constitute a crime to you, what's your ideal of what society should consider a crime.

I know what you asked me. I already gave the start of an answer, more than anyone else has done. I suspect more detail from me would warrant a separate thread. It may come to that.

But first I need you to be more specific. Anyone can say yes, I agree with you that gay sex, blasphemy and adultery are not crimes. Then later on, they can say they meant in their own state. I'm talking about the entire planet. Really it would be helpful if you could say whether you agree on that.

Why would I constraint my ideals to just a measly country? yes I am talking about the whole world, The whole world should acknowledge that these (and others) are not crimes. Well, think about it (creating the thread), now, I am going to have my beauty sleep.

Thank you. Well that's two of us who are prepared to say that a state can't always correctly legislate to decide what a crime is. The implications of this are considerable. We should re-visit this subject some time.

Very interesting. But do you think blasphemy a crime? If so, why? And has it got any victims? Really that is what this topic is about (see the title).

Blasphemy used to be a crime....

I'd have thought that we'd be over such bullshit by now but, perhaps not.

I hope you did not overlook the lementable historic fact that to accuse someone of blasphemy has very, very often been a tremendously murderous crime, perpetrated in murderous arrogance. I hope you see why in light of this, you can not reasonably argue blasphemy is a crime.

It is a poison. Like alcohol too much of it is a bad thing. It poisons people minds, divides families and provokes bloodshed though evidently you are proof that's not the only way to incapacitate and sabotage one's ability to think things through rationally and tactfully, trolling on forums it seems is just as effective.

And that you're anything but a rationalist and presumptuously spout drivel constantly doesn't actually give us atheists a bad name?

Quote:I can't believe in God. The idea seems crackers to me.
You hypocrite - let's have a little re-enactment of what goes on in a world ruled by the fanatical: Oh my God he doesn't believe in a God! He says the whole concept is nonsensical! Let's prosecute and brutally execute you on a charge of blasphemy for offending a magic man endorsed by the state that we can't prove actually demonstrably exists!

Quote:We can't be enlightened out of the religious condition - it is our lot!
You seem to hold the position that science, in the broadest sense 'to acquire knowledge', is a religion. In my opinion you are ignorantly, factually, utterly and wholly wrong.

Quote:I like that there are people who seems crazy to me in other parts of this life! It's different. It's crazy. It's terrifying. It's exciting!
The part where they stone you to death over their evidence-free dogmatic belief-enforced actions must sound especially enthralling to you.

Quote:'Blasphemy is a victimless crime' is arrogant, nasty, and not what I consider to be an appropriate message from an atheist site that intends to take itself seriously.
In your opinion it is offensive, which I for one care very little about. So your toes got stepped on, get over it. You don't have the right to NOT be offended. You remind me of this caller "Patrick", a self righteous moron, who called in on the Atheist Experience back in 2008, an Atheist, who had earlier threatened to sue Ray Comfort over a fucking bumper sticker no less because he claimed it somehow 'harmed his health'.

Quote:Do not think for one second that your 'more accurate' POV of the world makes you any more right or important than anyone else.
Respect for the religiously intolerant huh? Respect has to be earned and they've contributed nothing to society to deserve such. Go look up on the life on Thomas Aikenhead, it brings my piss to a boil when I read the accounts that Thomas was just a Scottish student from Edinburgh, who was prosecuted and executed on a charge of blasphemy at the age of eighteen by the same religious fuck-nuts who you demand that we be more 'empathic' to.

The catchphrase stays, you on the other hand I doubt will last the test of time, for a troll that's usually a week.
