Science has been consistent in that it does not chalk anything up to old mythology.
And this story, no matter where it leads is VERY constant with a basic principle of modern science. If you cannot see it directly, if it is real, even when you cannot see it directly you CAN see the effects that has on the things you CAN measure. Thus another article proving that point.
