I have never been to one, but that is because my social group centers around swing dancing and I meet my friends at the dances I go to. You could even try that if a scene exists near you and you can dig it.

Seriously? I am completely jealous. I don't have a damn bit of rhythm on the dance floor and LOVE that sort of music.

Understand that became a Christian my freshman year of college (14 years ago) and really had no deep friendships until I entered the church. I certainly don't need friends who want to talk me out of Atheism, or who believe that I am being "led astray" by a non-existent creature called the devil. But I still want friendships with people I care about, who care about me.

Numb nut....people will find YOU not the other way around!

STOP trying so hard and be patient...I had to wait 40 years to find someone who thought the way I did...I sincerely hope YOU don't have to wait so long.

Being on this forum is the best place to start...I have many friends that I am in touch with from all around the globe....pretty kewl when you think about it......

Still .... do you really WANT deep friendships??? How deep is DEEP?? find yourself and be THAT which you are and don't stress so much about friendships. they are a transient thing and of great value but STILL transient.

Not everone you care about will want to come on your journey with you ....get past that and you will be fine. This is the way it should be...

Good points. As to the reason why my old church friends are worried about what I believe, it's because they sadly believe that I have been led astray by the devil, and am headed on a dangerous trajectory towards hell. They also sincerely believe that since I am isolated from fellowship with other Christians, I am vulnerable to attacks from the devil and his demons. These beliefs deserve nothing less then to be thrown into the dustbin of history and left there. They are so bad, I can't even bring myself to laugh about them.

Just say this, "I have been washed in the blood of Jesus Christ, son of the most high God, and I'm an atheist because God made me that way, who are you to argue?" No demon possessed person could utter that phrase without writhing around on the ground with sulferous froth pouring out of their mouth; at least according to the Christian mythos. The first bit assures them you are not possessed of evil spirits and the end bit lets them know that you are an atheist and you have a sense of humor! Win/win!

Lol, that's awesome!! Speaking of demon possession, a prayer guide that I used to own, that covers every country in the world, claims that the tantric budhism practiced in Bhutan is demonic-well, gee, they seem to be a pretty peaceful country, much more so then here in the US, and I haven't seen any reports on CNN of murderous rampages being carried out by the followers of this belief.

Just let friendship happen, you shouldn't need to search or push. I hate it when somebody starts pushing to be my friend. However, when I talk to people I find I like some of them, and sometimes they like me, and we tend to chat more and sooner or later somebody suggest having a beer or something and then a friendship is formed. Ok, it doesn't have to be a beer, but its a good way to turn casual acquaintances into friends. Common interests in sport or something else can work as well.

Where to find such people, well, the workplace is always good for making friends, open up a bit to them and maybe they will open up to you.
