I have a question about religious parents

I'm sure not all religious parents are like that.

Yes in Islam the parents are pretty much forced to disown or be treated like crap from anyone that is Muslim.

No it won't, that's the annoying part about her victim posts. From everything she's written about her parents, despite trying to paint them in a bad light, they hardly seem like the type who would kick her out into the streets if she tells them she no longer believes.

My parents were concerned when we elected not to baptize our kids.  The reason?  They wanted to have a party for their friends and the rest of the family.  My friends did not give a fuck about silly religitard rituals.

Ah, very possibly, CL.  I don't know about you, but when I was a teen, EVERYTHING was drama and EVERYTHING was a potential disaster.  (chuckle)  If someone offered me the chance to start over at 13, (knowing what I know now!) and made me beautiful and rich, I would say "hell no!!!".   Teenage years - hormone swings and stress - yikes!  But it should console DA that you are so sure that the parental units would probably not freak out.

And yeah, this obsession/cry for attention is getting old.

I didn't say anything about me. I asked a question regarding christians in general.

Mine thought it was funny. When I said I didn't want to go to church my step dad laughed and asked if I would burn stepping on holy ground. He told me I was going through a phase of rebellion and he 'understood'

First of all, I NEVER said that my parents are horrible or that they would kick me out of the house or disown me. In fact, I specifically stated a few times that they would never do that. I acknowledged that they are very supportive when it comes to my education and loving.
Second of all, how am I playing the victim role in this OP? I asked a question regarding most christians. Sure, it includes my parents, but there's a difference between asking questions for guidance and playing the victim role. I didn't mention I suffer or anything. And this time I DIDN'T CRITICIZE ANYONE. I just asked how some react in a certain situation and I didn't mention it was good or bad.

Breathe DA.

Your threads DO generally center around your parents, and what might happen if you "came out" as an atheist.  If you are living at home, subject to their rules, and required to attend religious services, then this is understandable.  It's a theme.  It's good that you are being introspective and asking questions and connecting with like-minded people.  But we do see a theme here.  It could be understandable how some people might see this as a teenager whining about the parents.  Just sayin'.  Take it easy.     -- Fuzz

I have a question about religious parents
Should I tell my parents I faked being christian?
I don't understand what my mom believes
Do my parents fear that I'll leave the faith?
The hypocrisy of the chrisitians related to me
Disappointing my family
I was almost caught being an atheist
Was I traumatized by religion?
My mom's idea of a good path
Religion was once again showed down my throat
My dad wants me to marry another christian

Yep, definitely comes off like wanting attention and acting as though she's a victim who lives in fear of her religious parents.

CL you are still a believer, you cannot assume the situation of those who leave a religion, ANY religion, then assume just because we live in the west, the one ditching their religion is surrounded by tolerance 100% of the time. WE can tell you THAT IS NOT always the case.

I've been listening and reading the stories of the conflicts of other atheists whom deal with their families for the past 16 years. It is always harder for kids to be open to family or society, not just about atheists, but ANY ditching of the social norms a parent may sell. LGBT even if they believe, risk being social outcasts.

EVEN without sexuality or religion. Some parents blindly expect the child to take over the family business when they grow up, and even with something like that, many will react negatively to the rejection of such.

It certainly is worse in more conservative parts of the world. Even Sikhs and Hindus have sects and individual families whom will react very negatively to a female child rejecting the partner whom the parents pick out for them, even to the point of kicking them out of the house, or even honor killing.

You have NO RIGHT to assume what Die is talking about.

I personally have seen how my younger sister got treated when she came out as an atheist. It is hard for many, especially those whom are under age hand still legally are under the control of their parents. I was lucky growing up, and my younger sister was fortunately and adult but still got treated like shit verbally. Some kids when they are kids have it far worse.
