Hi all!

RE: Hi all!
Welcome to the forum! Smile

Don't know if I'm the right person to give advice, but I'd say to talk to religious family about religion with them only if it's relevant and you actually think you can accomplish something. I deal with my religious extended family rather pragmatically.

My advice depends on how much you like your family.

One Christmas my mother and aunts (devoyt catholics) gave me a copy of the bible.  In return I gave each a copy of "God is not great", by Hitchens.

That is simply amazing!

My parents are, I suppose agnostic, but very much towards the atheistic side. Hedging their bets I suppose XD.

My aunts and uncles are very much religious, I am not particularly close with them but my mother is.

I'd like to avoid a full on family argument if I can Sad.

We argue all the time about religion but they don't really take me seriously... I need to toughen up!!

Talk about the weather instead.  Come here when you need to speak to rational people.

Sound advice XD

RE: Hi all!
Welcome Woof.

I just let the religious of my family know that religion is not open for discussion. If they want me around they won't bring it up. If they do, I leave.

No big loss, I really don't like hanging with most of them anyway.

Edit: Why an anti-theist? I don't find the need. If they need that to make it through the day, fine by me. Just don't expect me to accept. Don't need that mental crutch.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

Been a devout anti-theist for about 12 years now. Didn't realise that there was even a forum for this until I explored on google.
After a bit of advice on how to talk about this kind of stuff with my extended family (all of whom are deeply religious).
I don't  want to offend or upset them but I feel very strongly about my beliefs (or lack thereof).
Any advice?
Much secular love

Welcome aboard, Matey Matty.

You'll get regular meals of chew toy theists but please treat the regulars with the dignity and respect they deserve.  (Some deserve more, some less and some .. well .. give them hell.)  Voted best theist last time was Catholic_Lady and NeosScholastic (sp?) placed high as well.  Neo will give as good as he gets.  Touch a hair on C_L's head and half of us become knights in her defense.  Use her to explore your live-and-let-live side.
