Yes, let's by all means bulldoze this decrepit old eyesore so we can more easily get to...an army barracks.  I mean, if you've seen one church, you've seen 'em all, right?

Boru

I'd bulldoze it.

Good on yer, then.  You and Min get together and behave the way theists are always accusing us of behaving.

It's not a church for the Congregation of Jehovah's Presbytery of Zion, so it's offensive to Baneemy and it's honoring a false religion to boot. Good reason to let it stay put.

We need only bulldoze facilities belonging to The One True Faith, after all. Everything else is an abomination.

I've been there.  It's nice but let's not get carried away with this 4th century shit.  The original building was demolished and replaced by Sixtus V in the 16th century which makes it contemporaneous with St Peter's which is both larger and more grand in the usual garish, over-stated, overdone, shit-ass way that catholicks do everything.

Calling St John Lateran "4th century" is like saying "I have a 5,000 year old axe.  True, the handle broke and I replaced that and then the head broke and I replaced that.... but the axe is 5,000 years old."

The cavalry barracks dates from the 2d century and at least the horseshit they have there would tell us what the horses ate.

You understand that what horses eat isn't a great archeological mystery, right?

Plenty.  But not about what horses eat - that's pretty much a settled question.

Chances are good that the kiddie fuckers simply threw a lick of paint over the barracks and called a church. That'rls the genesis of every other "holy" building in Rome after all.
