Live in Maryland, I have no clue if the masses are prone to homophobia... I don't get out much. Lots of gay rights activism in schools though (middle school, high school, college, et cetera). I'm assuming it's a reaction to pre-existing homophobia, but I haven't met any staunch anti-homosexual types (that I'm aware of). Then again, I live in the land of suburban stoners, no one really gives a fuck about anything. Tongue

New York City here United States, It's kind of mixed here but it seems to be swaying towards more tolerance and acceptance of the gay community. We have a gay pride parade here every year and the city is chock full of gay clubs and they even have their own section of town referred to as the village. I have a lesbian sister and a bi niece so gays have never been problem for me.

Here in Maine it seems mixed. In fall of 2009 just under half of Maine voted in favor of same sex marriage.

I tend to find that homophobia mostly tends to be mixed with people who are tolerant to homosexuals but still harbour a bit of a dislike to them (and of course I mean more than a sexual distaste, I'm not saying that only homosexuals aren't homophobic) in secret, which I still count as homophobia.... so I think homophobia is quite common around here, although there are still plenty of people who are not homophobic, and I wouldn't say it was particularly homophobic around here at all.

Winnipeg is pretty good. It's no Toronto or San Francisco, but it's not bad at all. I come from a more working-class suburb and while there isn't "anti-gay" sentiment, it's still a taboo.

I'd say there is a reasonable ammount of Homophobia in my area. (Near Manchester in in the north of England)

As with alot of the societal problems I see here though it stems primarily from ignorance and closed-mindedness than actual hatred though.

I'm from Istanbul Turkey. And even in Istanbul (maybe with exception of few neighbourhoods) being open about homosexuality means you won't have a life (not in literal sense) and in eastern parts of Turkey it IS in literal sense.
