Are there concerns with how some women are being treated in the porn industry?  Definitely.  Same for the men.  But that's not endemic of the industry so much as it is of society.

The fact is we live in a world where only 64 years ago it was considered okay to send black children to different schools than white children.  We're not even 50 years removed from when women were given a right to make their own healthcare decisions regarding pregnancy.  Yeah, advertising can give girls body image issues.  Porn can too.  But only because society let it happen, and not because of those industries themselves.  After all, those industries are only a result of society's own views.

Great way of looking at it.

I've always considered the idea that video games cause us to be violent to be obvious bullshit... and violent video games are clearly a reflection of us as violent people rather than the other way around. It's putting the cart before the horse. Indeed.

I just never thought to draw the analogy with porn. Sure, gaming can be an unthinking thing (although I like strategy games best!) but it surely leads me to reflect about it a little bit. I really DON'T reflect on porn very often though. I guess I was too busy whacking to it Tongue

So that's probably why I didn't think to draw the analogy.

Fantastic post Miss!

It's interesting both things seem to be trending in the same direction when they are at odds with each other.

It makes more sense when you consider that human society in general is trending more towards entropy than anything else.

You know, I once watched a short film for a film class that took clips from vintage pornos and scratched out the women, presumably as a commentary on how porn objectifies women and takes away their humanity. I pointed out in class that such a commentary was overly simplistic because, even though porn does objectify, men are not only also objectified, in porn, they're even less of an object. Except maybe in Gay porn, the men in porn are pretty much the penises that stimulate the women's bodies (a job that can be, and often is, frequently done by a machine or even an inanimate object) thus giving the viewer a reason to watch the film.

Seriously, look at some (heterosexual) porn and see how much focus is on the guys vs. the women. Women may be objectified, but at least they become more substantial as objects than even the men. Of course, maybe I just watch different porn than everyone else. People just look into the issue and force it into the narrative they want to see.

Generally,no.

And it depends on how you define porn.

Some people consider the type of modelling I did a few times "porn".

Rom-coms build up unrealistic expectations, perpetuate harmful stereotypes and promote reckless, selfish behaviors, all the while masquerading as wholesome stories with a positive message for very young people. And let's not forget, that there are plenty of behind-the-scenes horror stories from movie industry as well.
Name me an industry without horror stories . Look at the sports industry .

Pornhub is likely the best option.  They’re technology forward (were the first to embrace HTML 5) and just generally seem to have their shit together.

As a porn veteran I have to say pornhub seems to be leading the way by far in my opinion.

It's been like natural selection for me.  At first xhamster, xvideos and youporn were sites I used often. Before I'd established how good pornhub is I used to get it mistaken sometimes for youporn and use that instead and I'd instantly be thinking why is are the videos on here so crap all of a sudden.

If I can't find what I want on pornhub I generally just do a full google search on videos.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

CL,

Based on comments you've made here, I'm betting you've never seen the cover of a porn DVD, let alone spent any time watching any. I'll bet you've also never put in any serious research on the topic. In fact, I'll bet you're just asking to see how wildly our opinions differ from your preconceived notions. If you're really concerned that porn has the horrible effects on society that you're projecting, go do a study on the industry. Just leave the preconceptions at home.

Curious to know people's opinions.

I think a lot of porn addicts are would-be rapists who now have an alternative sexual outlet. Which means it's probably beneficial to many would-be rape victims.

I don't know about that. I feel like if someone has a propensity for sexual violence, watching a ton of porn depicting violence against women will only add fuel to their desire for it, and reinforce their objectification of women. That's what Ted Bundy said.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

You do realize that Ted Bundy was trying to appeal to evangelical groups.  He converted to Christianity on his death bed, and I'm sure that helped him get in with groups that would try to help him avoid the death penalty.  Specifically with James Dobson, head of Focus on the Family.  (Apparently Serial Killers go to heaven, gays do not)
