Given that some rape happens because an adult male kills a female's litter first, I'm not sure if a species' survival is all that dependent on rape.

My guess is that lots of progeny born in the animal kingdom are products of rape. It's just statistically unlikely that a male and a female would both want to have sex with each other at the same time. And in other animals, sex (consensual or rape) has a high potential of leading to childbirth. Indeed, I have a theory (correct me if I'm wrong) that our sex organs have been designed by evolution so that the male can rape the female.
So it remains how we deal with rape in other animals like dogs. If we could somehow prevent dogs from raping each other, should we? Mightn't that lead them to become extinct?

God still thinks rape being necessary for animals is a good idea though. And he certainly doesn't want to intervene to stop any suffering in nature. I haven't seen any research/evidence presented, one way or another. So all I can say is that this does not pass the smell test. Humans reproduce all the time without too much rape. We are horny bastards that tend to want it most of the time, and not just during some mating cycle, though.

We're almost perpetually fertile. Considering how long it takes to raise us up to the point of maturity (not our idea of it, viable size for survival on our own steam) it would be far more unlikely for us to have survived if we weren;t always down to fuck than if rape was somehow impossible for us.

Interestingly, though, men remain fertile pretty much up until their death. Unlike women who experience menopause. What is the purpose of men being capable of fathering children up until their death?
