The Argument From Silence
#11
RE: The Argument From Silence
They invented lots of stories about this fearsome god of theirs killing everyone in sight so as to scare the people into doing what they were told.  Sort of like the WLB with the border.

Nothing of which I'm aware.  Why do you ask?

So why do people worship Yeshua as a deity if he did nothing worthy of being worshiped as a deity?

For the same reason that people worshiped Zeus and Osiris and Marduk.  None of them ever did shit, either.  But the priests told stories and threatened them if they strayed from the straight and narrow.  And remember, the priests were always in cahoots with the king.  Never forget the wise words of Jefferson.

Quote:In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.

John Frum is a more recent example that may be enlightening.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

I don't think I'm really qualified to address the nuttiness of other people, but if I had to hazard a guess, I would say it likely has something to do with the message of, 'All you need do is believe in me, and all the horrid shit you've done in your life won't matter.  As a bonus, you'll get live forever in a beautiful place.'  Very appealing to desperate people.

You left out the corollary. "If you don't believe in me I'll burn you forever in a lake of fire.". Also very useful to superstitious primitives. Just look at how effective it is on our modern xhristards.

Point taken and appreciated.

I thought this thread was going to be about how to ignore evangelists.
God thinks it's fun to confuse primates. Larsen's God!
