Transgender Woman says DMV Clerk Warned of Hell
December 10, 2010 at 6:39 pm
Oh yeah, nothing like that old time religion. I never thought that the gospels made Jesus a bad guy, in fact he is rumored to have said some pretty stuff as in loving thy neighbor and doing to them as to yourself (which I believe the Buddha taught first??). It's too bad that too many christians have decided on too much Yahweh and not enough of the Jesus personality.

A few days after Amber Yust visited the Department of Motor Vehicles in San Francisco to register her sex change from male to female, she got a letter at home from the DMV employee who had handled her application.
Homosexual acts, he informed her, were "an abomination that leads to hell."
The same day, Yust said, a DVD arrived from a fundamentalist church warning of eternal damnation for anyone "possessed by demons" of homosexuality. The DMV employee's letter had referred her to the church's website as a source of "critical information for your salvation."
What's more, the DMV had kept the employee on in 2009 even after he refused to process another transgender woman's name-change application, Yust said in a damage claim filed with the state, the precursor to a lawsuit.

If you read the gospels more in depth, Jesus wasn't the goodie two shoes he is made out to be. For instance in Matthew 15:22-26 he called a Phoenician woman a dog.
Also even Jesus said Christians can be judgmental of others, they just have to judge other people according to the Bible not anything else. I found that out in a documentary called Hell's Bells 2: The Power and Spirit of Popular Music where a Christian guy was talking about some verse from the sermon on the mount regarding judgement.

Ah religion, it allows you to be a narrow minded, bigoted, prejudiced and hateful arsehole whilst all the time pretending to be a pious follower of god.

You can't give any of these "prophets" and "holy men" credit for any of it. Their fame tends to get them unwarranted credit for preexisting and rather self-evidence ideas and consequences.

I know long time ago when I read the Gita I was made aware that a lot of the "message" of the Gospels was plagiarized.

I wouldn't say plagiarized so much as 'so fucking obvious it was no wonder that it had been done before'
There are about a dozen pre-Christian iterations of the Golden Rule, many of them not part of any religion but tribal law, the Sumerians come to mind as one example of a non-religious legal system, and that was 5000BC, they had a really comprehensive and secular legal system as early as 2500 with the Cuneiform Law which even had womens rights as 'near' equal, it was still male dominated largely due to the dependency on hunter/gatherer and war situations, but compared to Christianity and the Pastoral Epistles who even with 2500 years of culture in advantage still couldn't manage to realize that the values for men and women are on an equal footing in terms of authority.
The Code of Hammurabi from Babylonian culture is another example of ethics that both predates and is superior to Christian or Jewish tenets.

I would think that the admonishment, to treat others as you wish to be treated were to be truly embraced, beyond a few sick puppies, would make a lot of specific laws unnecessary. After all who wants to have crime or fraud perpetuated upon themselves? I know it's quite simplistic but think of the impact!

I mean seriously; even Ed Wood showed that he had at least some idea that homosexuality, transsexuality, and transvestism were separate issues in 1953! Almost fifty years later, many Fundamentalist Christians still don't even bother to differentiate the three! I'm sorry, but this is a huge berserk button for me.

As if the DMV weren't suck-y enough. And in San Francisco no less? Where did this clerk think he lived exactly?

I lived in San Francisco for a lot of years I was surprised that it happened in SF, then again, no city is exempt from jackasses!
