It still reminds me of all the times when I worked for the national pizza chain during ice storms and snow storms, only to hear about my fellow drivers slide off the road, crash their cars, and almost crash mine.

The worst part, as I had said in prior posts, is I don't see how that boat pilot could have ever left the shore because weather reports are available hours and even a day ahead. It may be clear when you leave, but even non business owners, EVEN SCHOOLS stop classes before an event.

I am looking out our long term marketing. Our climate has been get it done quick, get it done cheaply, the rich know what is best for everyone. It is the same no rules mentality that caused the great depression. Any climate change scientist will tell you "Of course you cannot single out one hurricane, or snow storm or heat wave" but you CAN look at the frequency in the terms of long term. THAT is what I am addressing.

Not even owning a business, or a boat for that matter, I live on the coast, and constantly hear on local weather reports ADVISORIES that tell all boaters regardless of size or use, that it is not safe to go out on the water. I hear the boat advisories EVERY FUCKING DAY living on the coast. When it is calm, they say nothing, when it is rough they tell EVERYONE to stay off the water.

If you own a business you should NOT put the public at risk. But if you are driven by profits and you can intimidate an employee into doing it anyway and all you care about are profits, and the employee needs to eat, you can very easily get them to take risks they would not do if off the clock.

Our loophole at the pizza chain was "the driver has the final say", sounds great in theory. But, I lived in a "right to fuck the employee" state, and even when I told the manager it was unsafe to drive, I got a dirty look, and seen plenty of drivers FIRED for doing the right thing in bad weather, and not because of the manager either, but the corporate mentality above them.

I'd bet my life that the pilot of the boat, was either gung ho himself, or under pressure and didn't want to get fired.

Well, reality is what it is.  Your betting one way or another doesn’t change what it is, nor reduce your burden to find out what it is, before attempting to use it as a platform for anything else.

You don’t increase your credibility by coming across as a blindly obsessed fanatic to whom everything circles back to your pet political view.    That is the preserve of religious fanatics and right wing lunatics like Ann Courter and Laura Ingram.   It really helps if you instead come across as if you can adapt your mind to encompass the specific situation at hand and talk specifically and intelligently about something other than your obsession, and ABBA.

If we want more safety no matter the industry, or product, then we long term SHOULD NOT market quick satisfaction. There is something to be said for safety. It is obvious safety WAS NOT taken into account here.

Rushing is the social norm. "Why do you worry so much" is the social norm. "You hate the private sector" is the social norm. Self entitlement is the social norm. That mentality effects long term policy and law, and boat, or oil or coal ash or Genex, the more we keep focusing on "stop worrying" and ditch redundancy the more goes wrong with any industry.

The same stupid objections I am hearing in this thread are the same that kept led in gas, and car companies obstructed Nader when he told the industry their cars were unsafe. Just looking at that video, there is no damned excuse that it should have been on the water. Weather reports are accurate enough that in the morning all you have to do is watch, listen and refrain if a warning is issued. Just like open burn when burning leaves in your yard.
