Alex Jones and Infowars gets 'disappeared' - are we headed in the right direction?

RE: Alex Jones and Infowars gets 'disappeared' - are we headed in the right direction?
I'm not really sure what the convo is supposed to be about.  He got booted because he ran afoul of hate speech rules and started threatening people. Now, the last time he got into any shit... his defense was that it was all an act.

He isn't being censored for having an unpopular viewpoint, or because some bigwig didn't like what he had to say...but because his content can get the carrier into shit.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Alex Jones doesn't care about facts at all if he is "waking people up" and if he needs to make a lot of crap stories to make money for his noble goal, it's a fair game. I have seen this kind of shit somewhere else as well...

Hate speech is not illegal in US, but there is no reason why youtube should participate in it. Jones can still have all that stuff on his own webpage like, for instance, KKK does.

Not to mention Jones is already in a bad situation because not only did he had messy divorce he is also being sued for millions of dollars by parents of dead Sandy Hook kids who received numerous death threats from right wingers who are being told by Jones that they are just actors hired by left-wing forces seeking to push gun control.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I bet he's already proclaiming himself a martyr to free speech.

PS: Many social media sites have become so ubiquitous that they kind of feel like a public service. It's important to remember that they are not, and they absolutely have the right to expect users to adhere to their guidelines or be banned. It's no kind of basic right at play here.

OFC, it's part of his advertising now, "Subscribe to the banned show!".  Gotta sell them pills. As we all know, the first amendment guarantees unfettered commercial access to your target demographic on privately owned platforms.

The irony is that big tech has literally conspired against Alex Jones for trafficking in conspiracy theories.

I think you're using 'literally' and 'conspired' very loosely.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

As others have said - there's no problem with a private company(ies) restricting the use of their private property. Nothing to do with free speech or rights or any other freedoms. Alex Jones still has his own website and is free to spout whatever kinds of chemtrail gay frog Kenyan-Obama nonsense he wants - these groups just aren't letting him use their property to do it.

Instead, easily refute his goofy arguments and claims. More people will believe you than him. It's only the most deluded people that would believe this guy. He was snarling in anger abut Brian freaking Stelter. He's obviously unhinged or a dramatic actor/con man. Both, likely.

To be clear they have every legal right to do this. That is not in doubt.

No it does not.

America has had a history of judicial review on speech and have been pretty consistent in protecting free speech. People vs Larry Flint is one of the most famous cases. Larry poked fun of Jerry Falwell's mother, but the fake booze add was clearly labeled PARODY.

What is not protected speech is slander, liable and incitement. Alex had no intent in making it clear it was all an act and deliberately preyed upon fear and because of that the Sandy Hook victims have been HARMED by his actions. Those are subject to civil suits. Just like in the 60s 70s and 80s the KKK was successfully sued for it's speech that lead to harm of fellow citizens.

Things like South Park or Dave Shapel not in any danger. If you fear those types of parodies being harmed you have more to worry about from conservatives than liberals. Iran is an example of a conservative religious and POLITICALLY CORRECT state.

You have far more to fear from 45 than you do liberals when it comes to silencing free speech.
