Your political views
I am curious to find out what the political views of the people on here.

I consider myself as a social liberal, who believes in a free market capitalist economy. However there should be a certain level of regulation and a decent welfare system (including a universal health system). I am also an environmentalist with a strong dose of common sense (hence I am supportive of nuclear power and genetic modification of crops), not to mention a strong secularist who believes in a strict separation between church and state to the extent that governments have no business giving money to religious organisations (even schools).

By Australian standards I am in the center and considered a swing voter. Although by US standards I would be considered a flaming pinko liberal.

Pretty much the same here. I'm a card carrying member of the US' Libertarian party, I just don't blindly agree with their party line 100%.

I could drone on about policies and how to implement them, but talk isn't going to get it done.

RE: Your political views
I'm a pragmatist, driven by results.

At this point i'm center-right non-authoritarian. I have been further to the right before now, and more anarchistic but ultimately changing my theory of value forced me to drop that position.

A few years ago I would have been center-left non-authoritarian, but i've rejected that level of social intervention as plainly unfair.

Fairness is not equality, it is equal opportunity (by means of equal constraints).

Ziggy, you make Australia seem like a nice place to be. And, here I am, thinking of New Zealand.

So, by American standards, I suppose I'm a flaming-pinko-bleeding heart-Marxist-liberal.

RE: Your political views
Well, I was raised by a Eugene Deb type of socialist, I agree with some socialist points and disagree with others. I've felt for decades now that capitalism is the biggest shell game ever embraced by so many, what do you have but a con when so much is controlled and owned by so few. To me it's obvious we're not cookie cutter and therefore some people's potential is based on ability to learn, how one thinks, if one is creative, pretty much we're all hardwired differently, but I do believe that we should all be given equal chance to realize our own potential. I further believe that it should be acknowledged that we are all born with a birthright to shelter, food, warmth, and means to care for our health and freedom to live a lifestyle we choose as long as we do not harm to others, and offending someone is not doing them harm.
The world is a dangerous place to live - not because of the people who are evil but because of the people who don't do anything about it.
